I personally took the scene as these two lady bots being a couple and one of them got them in trouble because she was getting overly affectionate when it wasn't appropriate. But How is it bullshit? And how is it getting old? It's a comic with female characters in it, is everything they do now going to be seen as part of some feminist agenda? Would you have made the comment if it were two male bots, the offense of touching without consent would've still have been just a serious regardless of the characters gender. That isn't what's going on in this scene but why even say that.
It was okay, it was nice to see Strika make her first appearance and I can't wait to see her and the rest of the Beast Era characters interact next series, but after Combiner Wars I expected Elita One to be more insane, more dark and more of a lunatic, because that was the impression I got from her in issue 3. Still it's a pretty good conclusion.
Probably at the same time as its current issues, as I believe that it's been said that the Conquerors arc in Ex-RiD will be using some stuff from it. Plus Brawl's shown to be on Cybertron here, so it fits.
I'll be honest mate. Numerically speaking you probably are, if we look on it as percentage readers rather than absolutes. It couldn't be more obvious couple flirting. Which given tha gay robots were introduced by a man and most of the gay robots including the only other (albeit off screen) lesbian couple was written by a man, I'm not sure you can put that on Mairghread's door. The gay train has been rolling for 4 years now. For one if it was a "feminist" thing, Greenlight's response would have been more "You don't get to touch me without my permission" and less "grab my ass when no one is watching numb nuts". And Firestar and Nautica STILL isn't a romantic thing...no matter how much people seem terrified it might be... Now more importantly are Strika and Obsidian a couple and if not, who do I have to punch? Apart from my need to have Strika and Obsidian as the ultimate power couple, I do find it intriguing people STILL get worked up over the relationship thing. It's been coming on to the better part of half a decade, and the first relationship we see is a full on marriage. I don't see the fuss anymore, either against or indeed for. We've got loads of gay robots and now a fair few straight robots and probably every variation you get in between the extremes. Why make a fuss? Space pirate who is about twice as big as Starscream. As an issue a decent enough set up, but same problems as the other set ups in that...they're clearly set up for TAAO My one big issue is Chromia. If there's one thing that just imo does not work it's the general sweeping aside of the issues that should still be there between her and Windblade. The "second chance" talk erodes any belief on my part that we'll really revisit the implications of her actions and the impact it had on their friendship. Oddly enough I parallel it to the general sweeping aside of Brainstorm's actions in MTMTE.
Interesting ideas executed with mediocrity, just like the rest of the book. But the appearances of characters from other continuities and suggestion something cool will happen later means it succeeded at task overall. I was wondering if the old leader was a new interpretation of "Reverse Convoy". The parts shown do seem to have components of both Optimus and Megatron, and there are Vehicons after his homeworld name, but silhouette seems more like a Nova Prime than a tank.
I did not. What bugs me in this line is introducing even more unneeded physical attraction into a species where it makes absolutely no sense. To this day much more affectionate couple Rewind/Chromedome never needed anything more than holding hands and maybe a slight hug. I think Scott needs being reminded that she's writing about space alien robots, not about cosplaying humans. First WB/Chromia hug now this. This level of humanisation serves absolutely no purpose. It's lazy writing. Plenty of feelings like love/hate/greed/fear/whatever else in TF fiction can be used for making them more relatable, but physical attraction really has no place in TF story. I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to her next series... Kudos for Strika, though. I really need her toy now.
If I have a big complaint, it's actually aspects of Obsidian and Strika's designs. It's nitpicky for Strika, but badass as that giant cannon is, I've always pictured her having the twin barrels as part of her silhouette in both modes. As for Obsidian, he feels like a standard case of Vehiconfaceitis - namely, the fact that a lot of artists can't seem to figure out how to draw Vehicon heads right. I have to wonder if it's based more on the Botcon head, which wasn't quite as elongated for reasonable design reasons. But yeah, the thing with Vehicon heads like Tankor/Obsidian that people seem to have a hard time with is that people interpret things as faceplates when they aren't. I'll concede handily that BM heads are tricky things to draw/interpret looking at them... which is why referencing the animation is probably not a bad idea. You don't get the sense on Obsidian that he has that awesome weird as hell mouth on this design, but rather that the vent on his lower jaw is a "mouth" of sorts rather than the eye opening.
DAMN YOU PHYSICAL CONTACT! DAMN YOU STRAIGHT TO HELL! And damn straight physical attraction has no place and I'm glad that transformers has NEVER made any of its relationships based on the physical appearance of one participant...ever...nope...never happened. Or pointed out. In multiple incarnations and media. What? No, I'm not taking that seriously. It's new comic day, nothing should ever be taken seriously on new comic day. Also the amusingly arbitray nature of "proper humanisation" remains highly amusing to me, about as much as palaeontologists complaining about realism in a movie where a t rex has frog eyes. So, I'mma just have a LOT of fun right now.
Skids and Getaway hitting on Firestar, Lightbright's dating one of the firecons (I think it's Cindersaur, I can never tell them apart), Tigatron and Airrazor. As we've only got what...6-10 other couples, the straight relationships actually make up a decent percentage.
And not all stupidity can be handwaved by "let's not take it too seriously". Humans feel need to hug and caress each other because it comes straight from our biology. Either from mating or a relationship between parents and children. What biology of this kind justifies it for TFs? None. They don't mate and don't have offspring. When writing goes that far against suspension of disbelief it's just a bad writing, period. Or just more humans cosplaying for Cybertronians. It's a new trend, after all.
There is also the question on when the colony ships left in relation to Nova Prime's empire. If it was during that time, it could have been made up of political opponents or anyone that didn't fit in his vison, and not actual criminals.
Biggest disappointment for me was the art. All over the place. The scene of Devastator fighting another Combiner in the flashback? Can't even tell what Combiner that is. Not to mention Devastator looked horrible. And the colors on the Combaticons all seemed off. Not to mention their inclusion at the end made zero sense. As for the other bit with the two lesbian robots at the beginning? Less of a story-telling device and more of a "Look what I put in to a comic book". I don't have a problem with it but I do wish it was included in the book to advance a story of a character and not just what continues to appear to be a real-life political statement. Sad to see the series come to a conclusion as I did enjoy seeing the other colonies and seeing what Transformers would appear on them. However, the artwork was all over the place, the pacing was off, the overall story never kept my interest. Looking forward to seeing how Till All Are One turns out!
Yeah. The art was completely atrocious. The backgrounds are basically non existent, and everything feels so grainy and blank. The Combaticon situation I'm looking forward to. I love the Combaticons. It appears they're going to try to depose Stars cream and reveal the truth about what's going on with Swindle. Also, could this be the lead up to BRUTICUS?
