Part of Senior's appeal is because his way of drawing is working extremely well with a flat retro style coloring (also, Yomtov's wasn't capable of breaking it, lol).

Did not work as well with modern style of coloring.

Imho somewhat weaker reception of Senior's art in Regeneration 1 was not his fault at all, but came entirely from the colorist.

RG basically called for being colored the same way how Guidi's retro-stylised panels were in MTME annual but instead someone had an idea of coloring it in a more modern way...

You can take Delbo or Trimpe and color them with cuts&grads and it will work just fine, but for Senior it should be always flat coloring with mayyybe some subtle gradients.

TBH I don't know what coloring Style used in RG 1 was supposed to achieve. It was neither a cell-shaded style, nor a retro flat style, nor typical cuts&grads, did not work really well as modernisation, nor wasn't giving retro feel.

Yeah, I agree that the coloring of pages 2 and 4 is particularly muddy. I'd complain if this was the quality of a new comic, but seeing old comics with new coloring, even if it is muddy, makes me enjoy it more than the original block coloring.
