I'm not so sure about this. Until now ex-RID has had a constant stream of mediocrity. Post Combiner Wars we had a snarky, one-dimensional Prowl gauding Optimus, during Combiner Wars was nothing but a mess, and pre-Combiner Wars was a lot of repetitiveness that existed only to set up Combiner Wars. There was Galvatron slowly becoming more conniving and Arcee's sarcasm, but nothing that compares to what's happened in its sister comic. MTMTE on the other hand had Elegant Chaos, The Ratchet farewell issue, Megatron's philosophy with Ravage, and the business with Tarn, and those are only some of the more memorable points. We had a few crappy issues in mtmte, but RID finally having a great one doesn't suddenly excuse it from the crap we've had to bunker down with until now. I just hope RID can continue this pace and perhaps even surpass mtmte.
It's great to see this issue getting attention, especially on sites like CBR that rarely review Transformers comics.
Tyrest's kill switch was felt in RID, if I'm not mistaken. And they said at SDCC that everyone's issue 50 will tie into each other somehow in a big event. The DJD issue mentioned that Tarn fears the fact that the Galactic Council and the Black Box are going to band together with all anti-Transformer factions and wipe them out, after they handed the DJD their asses by working together. Granted, "Blackrock" and Black Box are unlikely to have anything in common but it's an unpleasant thought.
Did they? As far as I know, they just said both issues would be big. Nothing about crossovers. Roberts certainly made it sound like #50 wasn't part of any event, just the first part of MTMTE's second season finale.
Is it Black Box or Black Block? I think it's Black Block Consortia, a pan galactic commerce operation. And The Galactic Council is pan galactic united government thingie (paid by taxpayers)
I felt the Soundwave/Cosmos part was pretty great (the chase was a bit boring, but whatever). My real issue is Blackrock. I've never really liked him. The problem is his portrayal. He's never been consistently pinned down. Is he arrogant or downright delusional? Campy or grating? I have a decent idea in my head of who he's supposed to be, but I still honestly don't feel I know exactly what Barber intends. And I don't mean he's enigmatic - he's just poorly defined. The real crux of this is that I know he can do better. I loved season 1 of RID, but it feels like since Dark Cybertron he's never really recovered. A part of that might just be that I preferred the Cybertron politics over this Earth arc.
Nah, I didn't mean as in a crossover, but everyone's issue 50 would tie into each other somehow. Like how we saw some effects of Tyrest's kill switch in RID.
I liked the issue, Cosmos brings a very interesting perspective to not-RiD since he isn't one of the "heavy hitters" that are usually featured in the comic. The Decepticon Commune seems a lot like the Lost Light with their bar and movie theater. I have a feeling that things are going to go very poorly for the place before it could become anything positive though. There is way too much distrust between all the parties involved for things to go off without a hitch. I just hope it's something other than betrayal by the Decepticons that causes things to fall apart.
