I very, very rarely ever comment about the comics on the boards but i'm bored and have a question, a complaint and a revelation to share. Oh yeah... spoilers I suppose.

Firstly, Transformers: Punishment, could any of you fine people enlighten me as to whether this will be released in paperback form as an individual comic or will it be merged into a Volume with other issues in the future? Unfortunately i'm one of those mugs who doesn't have a fancy phone or a capable computer so i've been unable to read Punishment on whatever that app was it was made for.

Now, recently Brainstorm went on a little time travelling jaunt. I cannot put into words quite how disappointed I was with this story, i've never felt bored or confused whilst reading any of the IDW G1 story but that certainly did it. I'm fairly certain that Brainstorm has firmly seated himself as the biggest threat to the universe with this capability, but at the end they were just like "Bad Brainstorm, don't do it again." Hell I would've said he was far too much of a threat to live.

So way back when, it was MTMTE issue something or other we discovered that Ultra Magnus has a teeny-tiny little chap inside of him. I don't get peeved about differences and similarities in any aspect of Transformers since I am happy in my head for every series to be separate from one another with the exception of ones intentionally linked like Prime and RID2015. Anyway upon discovering Minimus Ambus was actually Ultra Magnus, and that Ultra Magnus was actually just a legend/suit I went into major nerd rage, but now I really don't know why, because I actually really like the concept. So yeah, yay for Minimus Ambus.

Anyway, these are the opinions of a very bored individual who for some reason felt like typing something. Have a nice day folks.

I want Minimus Ambus to go back in time at some point and become the legendary original first Ultra Magnus that his successors based themselves upon.

Minimus Ambus is just the white cab toy from 1986 given a new name.

I'm not entirely sure it was ever released as TBP; but you're not really missing out on anything special.

It will most likely be included in a Phase 2 Collection book of the IDW comics, but's that's entirely speculation on my part.

I personally think they should have surgically removed Brainstorm's spark and put it somewhere safe. That way he would be out of the picture and Roberts would still be able to bring him back for a story or two. But Roberts needed a proper reason for Ratchet to leave and this was that reason.

I understand how some people who've only watched the G1 cartoon would think it's stupid, but as a fan who's much more familiar with the general concept of Mags being a dude in a suit, it's much more acceptable and I do indeed think Minimus Ambus is a very good character.

Punishment is out in single print form, I have a copy. I found it worth reading, but there's nothing in there you need, it's just a detective story in postwar cybertron/the Decepticon slums, and more mulling on all the guilt to go around.

I don't think Brainstorm is that dangerous. They destroyed his time machine and he's not allowed to work without supervision, so it'd be difficult for him to build another.

If there were EVER a reason to bring back Brainstorm's time machine, that would be it!

IDW is selling Punishment on their website. You may also be able to get a copy ordered through your local comic store. You may be able to find it online at some other comic specialty stores.

I do agree about Brainstorm, and the story as a whole to tell the truth. IS anti-climatic the word. Roberts was to on the nose with all the time loops stuff and the Lost Lighters being responsible for this and that.

but in relation to Brainstorm, yeah the whole slap on the rist ending was bull. Brainstorm could have been a great villain. Especially with all those gadgets and gizmos he created. He could have been a foil for our Lost Light crew and a great recurring villain in a series that already has a slew of great villains.

I guess Roberts thought people liked Brainstorm as a main character and thought this way the only way he'd still be a main character in the cast.

I do agree, it would have been cool to have Brainstorm as a wild card antagonist.

I don't see how Brainstorm could've been punished, logically. He did nothing wrong except knock out a few bar patrons. He killed nobody, didn't alter history, and in fact needed to do everything he did so that the Universe could exist as it does.

    He committed no crimes.

I think there are still some people out there who latched onto the initial hypothesis that he poisoned everyone with the intent to kill rather than incapacitate, despite the fact that the same issue indicated that he didn't kill Ultra Magnus when presented with the chance. He was also technically a Decepticon double agent, and we only have his word on it that the info he shared was not really useful.

We also have it on his word that he was even a double agent at all. All he had was a 'Con symbol painted on the inside of his mouthplate, and it's common knowledge that actual Decepticons have a ritual for their badges.

Well for what it's worth we also have Megatron's word that Brainstorm wasn't really the type of person the Decepticons tried to recruit, too.

In fairness how many of us bought the Brainstorm figure because of his role in IDW? While some of us no doubt bought it because it was a headmaster, a lot of us bought him because at the time his character appeared to be central to what was happening in MTMTE.

He doesnt seem to be quite as integral anymore. Or at leasts at this moment in time.

Punishment is definitely worth a pick up especially if you dont know the ending. Its a dark gritty tale with some nice moments.

Rewind on the other hand, murdered someone and basically created the being who killed millions of Cybertronians. I haven't re-read that arc yet, but didn't they just handwave Rewinds actions?

whirls actions too, he wasn't content with just being indirectly and accidentally responsible for the whole war he had to go back and be knowingly and deliberately responsible for all those millions of years of slaughter and suffering too.

As an aside I could see them doing this conversation

    Whirl "I'm your father"

    Megatron "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

It's worth noting that he actually thought he was killing Megatron and saving the lives of millions of Cybertronians and billions of non-Cybertronians. So yeah, he technically did kill some dude who would have been Megatron, but he had no way of knowing that he wasn't killing Megatron. Plus, it was clear that Rewind was still dealing with the trauma of the DJD murdering his version of the Lost Light, plus the ongoing entire rewrite of his data archives, so he really wasn't the most mentally stable at the time.
