So with the application by Hasbro for the Gobot Trademark, it opens up potential for the Gobots to be brought into the transformer fold.
We know that IDW is exploring potential "colonies" (for lack of the proper term) of cybertronians.
I thought it would actually kind of be cool if they could give the Gobots an upgrade like we are seeing to all of our transformers. Give them personalities and individual motivations. Give them reason to exist beyond killing each other and I think it would be awesome. A long lost planet of beings who perhaps even forgot they were cybertronians. Along the way they evolved to incorporate biologic nervous systems... Or perhaps make them a race of beings engineered by another race or the Galactic Council to combat Cybertronians...

They was never named but Crasher and Cy-kill have already made cameos in megatron origin. The time of senate unrest in which megatron origin was set is currently being revisited in the time travelling elegent chaos arc of mtmte so who knows if these Gobot/early Decepticons will make an appearance as renegades to the senate/functionists.

We have already had the residents of Gorlam prime evolving from biological creatures to transformers origin but I wouldn't object to more of this.

 

We could find out about Cy-Kill. What his life was like as a Miner. What his dreams, and ambitions were, and what events led to him becoming a Gladiator. We could follow him meeting his team, and explore what relationship he had with each member.

We could explore what drew them together, and how they were each effected by the council, and the functionalists. We might see if any of them had read Megatron's writings. Find out if it inspired him to rebel, and question the authorities, setting him on the journey we follow him through.

We could explore the hardships they dealt with, as they struggled to find meaning. We could see them rise through the ranks of the gladiatorial arena. Earning a reputation, and growing strong as a team. We could see them grow from nobodies with no future, to people with ambitions, and watch as they start to reach them, the possibility of them rising up becoming a reality.

Right up until Megatron runs a blade through his spark.

I'd be cool with it. Several months ago I threw out the idea of having the Gobots being a hybrid of Cybertronians and a native humanoid race created after a titan arrived on Gobotron. It isn't like they explicitly named them in previous IDW stories so things like Cy-Kill's death can easily be circumvented.

Yeah, I'd be all for it. Give those Gobots some long overdue love. Start with Cy-kill beating the crap out of Megatron- payback for all those jokes

I'd be well up for that. Gimme some Crasher/Fracture busting heads. Also, if they used Leader-1 then I'd want his toy face not the cartoon one. The toy version was very cool.

 

Well hey, why not? We've got thousands of neutrals roaming around on Cybertron now. One of the ships that came home could've had a group that calls themselves "Go-Bots" on them.

Although, heh, I wouldn't put money on it happening. It's been, what, two of three years now since the neutrals were introduced and we still know next to nothing about them except that they seem to be collectively, annoyingly contrary.

I would honestly laugh so, SO hard if that happened.

Crasher/Fracture in particular would be a great asset.

 

Depends on what stories are told with them, and how. They could be some sort of rival race to the Cybertronians or an offshoot. Though I'd honestly like to keep the idea of them being cyborgs with organic brains, and at least a little bit of the original concept, otherwise why bother to use them?

Anyone else think that if this had happened a few years ago the Ammonites and Terradores would have been called Go-Bots?

I want a proper Gobots comic on its own. Give'm a miniseries to see how it does. If it fails, sure, then shove them in there with the Transformers. I just think the Gobots shouldn't by Cybertronians, and should have the backstory the had in their cartoon.

 

If they can make sense of their origin and not have plans to redshirt them all...

 

I really like this idea. What if you took it a step further and the Gobots are actually members of an organic race augmented to resemble Cybertronians who have infiltrated the species population, acting as a huge army of sleeper agents for the Galactic Council to basically spy on the race and relay information back to the Council? Then whenever the Galactic Council plot Roberts has been minutely hinting at comes up, the Gobots get activated and then you've got a Transformers vs. Gobots event.

Plus that totally explains and justifies all those cameos, like Crasher and Cy-Kill in Megatron: Origin.
