My wife and I just bought a new home and I'm finally going to have a place to display my collection properly. Right now the room is a blank slate, but as the room evolves and changes, I'll be updating pics. 2015-09-06 [UPDATE] I've added and changed quite a bit since the last update. Reorganizing some stuff right now, but hope to have new pics up soon. In the meantime, I figured this would be a good place to show off some of the photography work that I've done. 2014-11-15 [UPDATE] I've moved a lot of stuff around, really trying to focus on Masterpiece. I've been buying up all the Masterpiece coins that will soon go on display with the figures, along with the collector cards. I'd like to space things out a bit, so I really need to buy a couple more detolfs. I've got some time off soon, so maybe I'll make a run to IKEA. Along with the Masterpiece figure, coin, and card, I want the G1 figure there as well. I've been buying up the missing G1 figures that I've needed and only missing a couple (the big one being a G1 Wheeljack). Upcoming figures that are either in my POL or I'll be picking up soon... Masterpiece Bumblebee, Masterpiece Ultra Magnus, KFC Transistor (Not-Blaster,) Fans Toys Soar (Not-Swoop), Masterpiece Red Alert, X-Transbots Ollie (Not-Wheelie), Masterpiece Skywarp, and KO Masterpiece Ratbat. 2014-02-19 [UPDATE] We finally finished painting! Took a little longer than we would have liked, but it's all good to go now. After we finished painting, we started moving the collection from storage back home. Right now, all of my Transformers and other figures have made it into the closet until they can be properly displayed. I've still got my video game collection in storage until space can be made. The next steps are going to be furniture. Thoughts? As I've mentioned, I think I want to go with Detolfs for the actual display, but anything else out there that is good to use? Places to buy? 2014-02-09 [UPDATE] Painting has begun and the hole in the wall is patched. I will post some new pics once everything is done. I've been looking at a couple of other threads for inspiration. I like the display style clintfca uses with Masterpiece figures and their G1 counterparts in the background. I do prefer the look of Detolfs over traditional bookshelves as I feel it's more of a gallery showpiece; more of the feeling I would like to convey in my room. I like the look of xMostWanted559x's Detolfs with the lighting and layout. Once the room is complete, the next big step will be purchasing the displays. My closet Ikea has not have Detolfs in stock for several months now; a common problem it seems. I may have to end up buying something else all together, or suck it up and may Ikea's crazy shipping charges. 2014-02-07 [UPDATE] As I mentioned above, the room is blank right now. I've started patching the wall and prepping for paint (don't mind the giant hole in the wall, my dog loves to eat drywall for some reason). My wife and I have been trying to decide colors for the room. Right now, the paint scheme we are leaning towards is a darkish-greyish-blueish color. No curtains going up, just wood-slate blinds. The starting idea is to have 5 Detolf cases. 4 dedicated to Transformers and 1 for various other display items (FiguArts, videogames figures, TMNT, etc.) I also plan to have framed posters and comic books, using dark wood frames. I may put a desk / table in the room for photographing items. What I would like to get from the board is input on ideas. Arrangement, supplemental items (lights, stands, risers, etc). I want to keep the room clean and well organized. If something is going to be on display, I would like it in a case and well lit. I'm not really a big fan of bookshelves or shelving in general. The Detolfs are mainly going to be showing off showcase items, i.e. Masterpiece and G1 counterparts, 3rd party, larger figures. I've got a couple of larger display groups that I'm not sure are going to work in Detolfs however. I would like something larger to show off a 1986 movie collection, modern movie collection, and WFC/FoC figures. Is there something similar to Detolf, but wider for more elaborate displays? I was thinking in the same line as u when coming up with a display idea. I really liked the dertolfs but they are too narrow to comfortably display figures. I mean, obviously u can put one or two on a shelf, but that's gonna be a hole lotta detolfs if u have a ton of figures. Those things seem to easily get over crowded, especially if u have a lot of figures I know u said u don't like bookcases or shelving,but to kinda get that detolf look but wider area, u could do ikeas 30 inch wide bookcases but upgrade all the shelves with glass and then put the glass doors on them (ok so that's exactly what I did) I currently do not have an entire room dedicated to my figures (but someday hope to) so I plan on just adding more of the same of what I already have. This allows for a room with display cases that all match aesthetically, and IMO is a better look than having a room with a bunch of different displays made of different materials (ex: an all glass display case, an oak display, a black display,etc.). Basically, if I where u, I'd look around for the best display case that meets ur needs and buy multiples of them, I think it will make for a "cleaner" room. Look through ikeas website, they got some cool total wall case ideas(with different color options), and many of them can be outfitted with glass shelves and doors like I previously mentioned. Upgrades get expensive real quick though. Also, while ur at it, pick out a lighting option and stick with the same color temp (for example "warm" or "cool" lights). Just my thoughts, sounds like a cool project
New updates. Also, anyone know why the vertical pictures are displaying as horizontal? Pics are fine on my computer.
