I've picked up about 5 glass display cases from IKEA..each are about $65 ... they are amazing and the TF's look great in them. They also have holes in the top so you can put lights in.

The one problem is that my detolfs are so sparsely populated so I don't think I have enough clearance.

So that isn't a 1 piece step? Seems like they are like nesting dolls and the smaller pieces are inside the big piece. Can't beat the price though. Might need to check that out.

I'm unsure, bud. I saw a friend posted it, thought it may be useful, and reposted it here. If you track these down for yourself, by all means share your thoughts of them

Welcome to the Detolf club! Dioder is the name of the light set for them, they work really well but they have a hell of a lot of cabling.

That my friend is set 6980: Galaxy Commander. My personal favourite and a rather popular Classic Space set.

Do you mean that they're densely populated? If they were sparse it'd seem to me that it'd be easier to hang some flyers up above.

I have the lights installed on mine and I found it better to run the cables discretely down the inside of the enclosure rather than leave them dangling loose down the back. I simply ran the cables tightly to one of the back corner shelving rack posts and zipped tied it down the length of the vertical post to exit discretely out the front of the unit on the side opposite the door's hinges. I then passed the cable under the unit to have it snake up the wall to a socket. It turns out that doing it this way leaves the light switch on the inside bottom shelf right behind the door; which has no trouble closing even with the wire passing right under it. You can look at the closeup picture of Sixshot I posted above; near the top of the back post you can faintly see a white zip tie loop holding the cable hidden behind the post. You might have trouble seeing it though since my original goal was to keep it hidden from view.

One issue I've been worrying about since I took my toys out of storage after 25+ years in a box is the yellowing of the white plastics from longterm exposure to UV light. I was wondering if anyone has taken steps to prevent such a thing when displaying their toys. One idea I had was to get some sort of anti-UV film used for windows to apply to the Detolf's glass sides; though I worry that it would darken them up so much that it's make seeing inside difficult. Perhaps it's simply be easier to put such a protective film on the room's windows instead. Thoughts?

Oops I meant to say they weren't so sparsely populated as yours. So yes they are densely populated. And getting more and more so with the more toys I finally get around to opening.

Mainly, I keep my TFs out of ANY kind of sunlight. That's the main preventative measure. Also, just be careful as to which kinds of lights you use in the room your TFs are in.

As far as toys that are already yellowed, you can jump over to the Toy Discussion forum and check out the Hydroxide bath thread.

Bed, bath and beyond has perfect ones that fit nice and with frequent coupons are similar in price. Nice rubber matting and great width for detilf.
