I'm so cheap I usually end up going for the particle board bookcases from walmart.

Yeah man! I was a bit pressed for time when I posted those links, so my apologies for being a bit impersonal there. I think both of those links are really great resources for the IKEA shelves :)

I've been there and done that! At one point, I had some of those white bathroom shelving units from Target that combined together.

There are some great ideas for shelving on this thread. But I'm really curious about lighting. I know it's not as important as the actual methods and hardware for building a great display area, but lighting can add that extra "oomph" and make it go from nice to epic. Any ideas on that? I was eventually planning on messing with old Christmas lights but I'm drawing a blank on how to use them without them obviously being Christmas lights.

Are all the Masterpiece boxes pretty much the same height? Because they're too tall for my current display, which is causing a major issue due to a current lack of viable shelving...anyone recommend cheap shelving that the MP boxes actually fit in? I like to display the boxes with the figures.

Hey fellas, for those of you with detolfs, how do you recommend them standing on carpet? with out the feet? and do you need a special brace to secure them to the wall, or are they ok with out?

thanks for any advice that can be given,

    bless~!

I got the feet on all of mine. 2 on wood floors and 1 on carpet, all with feet. none anchored to the wall and no problems.

I have my Detold setup on carpet with the feet. I do not have it secured to the wall in any way, despite the instructions telling you to attach a little strap that is included.

Whether or not you use the feet it is still a good idea to make sure it is level. You may need shims but those can work under the feet or just under the bottom panel.

Mine is pretty level without shims but sometimes walking past it makes some of the less stable bots wave back and forth.

I'm running out of space...and the Japanese Masterpiece boxes are too tall to fit in my current system. Any ideas of cheap shelving I could buy?

Got a question for anybody. I have limited space and I'm considering putting my bookcase display in the corner of the room next to the radiator. would it be a bad idea to put the bookcase next to the radiator?? With regards to keeping the integrity of the toys.

The radiator is very rarely used/opened/turned on, so any exposure to the heat would probably be minimal. Anyone with knowledge on this that could answer me would be greatly appreciated.

Something simple I do to take advantage of all the empty vertical space in my Detolf units, rather than going through the hassle and expense of adding extra shelves, is to use lengths of clear nylon thread (or fishing twine) to suspend some bots and cons. The twine/thread is easily found in most arts and crafts or sport supply stores. I usually tie two lengths to the opposing horizontal bars of the interior metal frame, leaving a fair bit of slack in the middle. I then suspend the toys, front and back, by simply balancing them between the two lengths of twine; perhaps looping the thread around conveniently protruding limbs, wings or other bits to further secure and angle the toy as desired. It looks great for cons or bots in their sleek flight modes, liberates precious shelf space beneath them, helps fill the otherwise empty vertical space and makes the otherwise static display appear more dynamic. A spool of twine is certainly cheaper to acquire than additional shelving or acrylic risers if you're on a budget.

    Hope that helps.

I would think on carpet no feet would be fine. Mine are on hardwood floors so I have feet with felt pads under them. I strapped mine but I'm in California so I'm paranoid about them falling over. That would be a lot of glass to clean up.

Define cheap. I used to buy the cheap particle board bookcases from K-mart or Wal-mart. If you need something super cheap maybe you can go to a hardware store and buy some ply wood or shelves and use wall brackets to put shelves on the walls. Won't be the prettiest but it should be fairly cheap I would think.

Cool idea. Would you mind posting pics?
