Any advice on how to safely move a Detolf from Ikea in a U-HAUL truck? I'm gonna be moving out to an apartment on my college campus real soon and I'm worried my Detolf will shatter if I take it with me (which is only like a 30 minute drive, but still)

I've thought about possibly taking it apart? I've still got the manual and it doesn't seem like a bad idea. Just looking for your guys' input here. Thanks!

I'm not sure who said it but I think I like glass cases with lighting would be the best. Nice large one would look great. The width is like a wall long.

I like them eye level to high level. I don't like anything on the floor or where I need to kneel to see them.

I don't know if I like mirror on the back of them though. I think it can be distracting. Although it does help light the toys up better.

I saw a thread last week about the topic of moving detolfs, but I couldn't find it. There are an array of responses/solutions.

I have moved twice with them. I didn't take them apart, just laid them flat. Made sure the door part was up. Had a blanket under them.

I recently moved mine as well. As Citricon said, you can lay them flat with the door side on top. Be sure to pad them as much as you can, and put padding (I used socks :)  ) between the glass door and the side piece of glass (where the hinges are). I also stuffed the inside with pillows, not sure if that helped or not but I felt better about it. I had the "luck" of having a mini van so I could dedicate a trip with the Deltofs by themselves, not sure if you have that. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies guys, but I think I'm gonna go with what Citricon and cjranck suggested, mainly because I'm lazy as all hell lmao.

Another quick question: do you guys leave the lights on 24/7 for your displays? I tend to turn it on and off throughout the day, but I don't wanna turn it on 24/7 so that the lightbulb/led light will last longer. It's a personal preference thing but I'd like to hear your guys' opinions.

I have my lights on a timer so they only come on in the evening.

I know this is super low-end, but as far as risers on the cheap, it does get the job done. I use old voyager boxes wrapped in reversed wrapping paper as risers. You can get wrapping paper pretty cheap, and with three differently-sized faces on a voyager box, you have three heights to choose from (front/back, top/bottom, sides).

Do you fill the boxes with anything? I'd be worried about the boxes collapsing under the weight of the toys.

I used Ikea Dioder lights. Ikea Dioder. They have ones that are always white and the set I have which cycles a bunch of colors (or can be manually set to your favorite). I have 2 mounted to the very top with screws and 2 of the lights zip tied to a lower shelf. 2 sets of those lights would light an entire Detolf. With 1 set I feel it is only half lit. I'll try to dig out a picture of my case lit up.

How's the lighting on those? From pictures I've seen the lighting looks a little dark. I've been thinking about just getting the $30 Dioder lights that are always white. What type of timer do you use for your Dioders?

They definitely put out some light. We actually used it as a night light for a long time. I stopped when I realized it was absolute over kill for a night light.

I attached a few pics of my setup. The first one is with the flash on. The rest are no flash and my living room lights on like normal.

As for the timer... just a cheap-o $5 one from Walmart.

Sadly static poses with arms at their sides will probably give the most space. I use a bunch of risers to put maximize the space.

I keep the plastic trays in there. Seems to keep them up OK. Actually, it's only my Prime shelf I have with that setup, so (not to be rude but) maybe it would be a problem with heavier toys.
