Wow, haven't updated here in a while. Dusted and thinned out my modern randomness shelves, figured I'd share since I got some ok pics of em. Recently retired like 25% of that shelf on each side in order to make room for some upcoming Masterpieces and 3rd Party stuff coming up. Decepticon side is still kinda tight. Doesn't look epicly impressive compared with some others here, but I've been going for a quality over quantity style of collecting lately. Just cool pieces I like. Above it is the RID chaos, which is everything ever made, over 2.5 shelves. Not seen in full here, will try to update with that later.
Nice collection! But I think the shelves are way too cluttered. Makes it hard to distinguish individual bots.
Very nice. But you need more shelf space. I'd hate to say thin the herd cause I know I wouldn't do that lol.
OK, here's some more of the set up. It's in a state of flux, I've recently moved stuff around and removed a bunch of stuff, so things are not final. Full Shot: RID Here's where it gets a bit messy. Non-TF. Not full set of up close shots, but you get the idea. See full shot for rest. Side shelves, opposite wall from above, on each side of desk, above it Staging area. Going to be photographed, or, going to storage. While looking at main wall, this is to the right. Metroplex, protector of energon... Photgraph area. While looking at main wall, this is to the left.
It's amazing seeing your signature in it's natural habitat. What are the little vials on the Bumblebee shelf, if you don't mind me asking?
I like a bit of chaos. I like them dense/cluttered, but only if they are posed up. I don't like stuffed, shoulder to shoulder tomb like set ups. Gotta have some layers and depth, staggered height. That being said, the modern TF was a bit too tight, and Decepticon side still is, and I'm working on a thinning, reshuffle. Done! See post above. I do, but, this is it. I only display what fits in these areas. As I get new stuff, old stuff gets sold or goes into storage. Curate, don't hoard. That's what I'm shooting for. The shelving system is custom. It uses what's called gridwall. Thats the metal piece behind the shelves. You can then get brackets to attach that to a wall, and brackets for the shelves to fit that system. They use it at conventions to set up booths and in retail stores. But this is a bit fancier chromed version of that, rather than flat black. The shelves themselves are custom cut and stained wood from Home Depot. I measured out what would fit in this space, mapped out the staggered look and mini shelves. Wood was just basic planks, cut there by them to my specs, and I stained it with Minwax in the garage. I actually put planks behind the shelves, screwed that into the studs of the wall. Then, attached the brackets that hold the gridwall up to those planks rather than directly into the wall. That allowed me to space the gridwall holders where I needed them to keep it all evenly spaced. Otherwise the whole setup would have been offset on the wall to match up with the studs, and I hate unevenness. Below are examples of how it's all connected.
I use a vaporizer (electronic cigarette, big one). Those are bottles of flavored nicotine. As I said, this room is in flux so I have stuff where it shouldn't be as I move things around.
That lighting/photoshoot area says, "I'm not messing around." lol. The display is awesome. I enjoy seeing all the different colors intermixed. The masterpiece shelf looks very cool.
I think that shelving unit is perfect for Transformers -- the gridwall reminds me of the old TF boxes. Seriously awesome set-up, man. I like to see the mixed fandoms on different shelves.
