It does look really good...I can picture it now displayed with Metroplex in city mode.

Does MT include the batteries for the LED's or is this a matter of hunting down the right ones?

Yeah would agree that it looks good. I am surprised there's still no preorder.

The artwork almost made it look like it came with new bits for the feet so he would have an ankle tilt but I see it's sadly only in the artwork and not part of this set :\

For a minute I though it was for the 3rd Party WFC Omega, then I saw the silhouette of the Energon era mold

Did you know there are still TF podcasts who don't undertstand why so many third party toys are named "Uranus"? I keep trying to explain to them that's the name of the PHOTOGRAPHER!

    We-ell...

    1. Looks like there were going to be add-on parts for the rock portion to make it look more... well, rocket-like, that got cut (You can see them in the box art). Disappointing.

    2. You have to remove Omega's back doors and re-attach them to his backpack to transform him? That's also a disconcerting bit of partforming, especially as you'll have to do this every time you transform him. These were not parts that were designed to do this repeatedly.

    3. Repurposing the original nose of the rocket to be Omega's toe? that's actually really clever.

    4. The gunbarrel attachment just WORKS, in all modes. Especially nice that it uses Omega's existing electronics. Now we have reason to put batteries in the thing (Assuming This version of the mold has functioning electronics? Never put batteries in either version of mine)

    5. The leg guns look kinda clumsy here. But they're using the powerlinx connection points so... chances are you have some flexibility on how you place them.

Yeah, when I realized what was going on there, I'm not exactly liking it. I haven't handled Omega in quite awhile so I'm not sure if that's a routine stress that the plastic of those pieces can handle. I'm hoping they pop off and on real easy, but Omega's posing in the back of the display shelf so I can't get at him to try.

Still not seeing a configuration with the leg guns that looks good. I'd like to see some kind of attempt to make them flush with the leg.

I got this thing in from Chinmungmung this weekend, and after fiddling with it a bit here are my thoughts:

One point to note – both “spotlight” parts come with batteries included – sadly, the new arm cannon does not.

    • The kit itself arrives in a pretty big box, and all of the parts are cleanly molded and constructed. The plastic feels quite sturdy and not cheap like TFC’s Uranos. I’d say it has a more rugged feel than any of Maketoy’s previous offerings actually.

    • The colour matching is almost dead on, especially the weird beige/grey plastic of the barrel attachment. I was quite impressed by that.

    • This thing is literally “partsformer.txt”. It’s almost like a model in the sense that you basically have to take EVERYTHING apart in order to switch modes, including the core Omega Supreme bot itself. While it’s known that you have to remove the rear door hinges, I was surprised that you also have to remove the clear yellow “bumper” from the front of the battleship in order to mount the new cannon. That part comes with an additional piece that allows you to mount it on Omega’s left toe, but it looks kind of awkward sticking out and doesn’t really sit flush or lock into place.

    • That’s another thing – while the components themselves all lock solidly with each other, those parts of the set that connect to Omega barely lock, or just don’t at all. The new arm cannon clicks loosely into place and I believe Maketoys did the best they could with the attachment. The aforementioned toe doesn’t have a lock on it, but there seems to be enough friction to keep it from falling out easily. The biggest offender is the backpack with the tracks. It slots in via the back where the doors where removed, but it does NOT lock into place at all. So if you tip Omega horizontally facing upwards, the entire thing just slides right out. Again, Maketoys probably had a difficult time working with the original figure, as there really isn’t much inside Omega’s chest cavity to lock on to. Still, I’m sure something could have been done and it’s probably my biggest complaint about the entire set.

    • The base mode is pretty cool, with the battleship stand and spotlights really giving it a solid presence. The train tracks are also connected to the base mode itself, something which I wasn’t expecting. Unfortunately, the angle of the train tracks does not lend itself properly to the Omega train – it sits on the tracks at a weird angle, with the rear wheels overhanging the tracks. I imagine that they sacrificed proper track alignment for the aesthetic look of Omega in robot mode, but it’s kind of disappointing.

Final verdict - Well, it has some flaws, namely integrating with the existing Hasbro figure. HOWEVER – when you have everything attached and set up, holy hell does he look awesome. The set bulks up YOTS Omega and gives him a real G1 feel. He looks amazing going up against TFC Hercules. The base mode is also a marked improvement, as he is no longer two random vehicles, but an actual launch port/cargo terminal.

Is it perfect? No, and if you dislike partsformers you’re going to want to kill yourself. But, personally, it satisfies my itch for a Generations Omega Supreme and it costs a lot less than PX Genesis, so I’m satisfied.

    Got mine today. Random thoughts:

    - Holy heck does this kit bulk up Omega. Feels like it almost doubles his weight too.

    - I was dreading the partsforming, but after doing it once it makes sense and feels right. When you know what the final base is supposed to look like, its actually kind of intuitive.

    - I was also dreading removing Omega's back panels to reattach to the new backpack, but they're detaching and reattaching off of my figure without worry about stressing pieces.

    - The new toe.... I want to like it because it is a pretty clever way to integrate the front ship part back into the figure. Its not so much that it doesn't lock in that bothers me as it is that it makes the foot a little too long when compared to the other foot.

    - The cannon hand is awesome as is the insert for the right shoulder canopy. Also pretty neat that the bridge inside can move to a different position so that its still level in train mode too. The cannon hand attached to the train cannon looks surprisingly good too and locks in quite well.

    - The train doesn't ride the rails properly with the rear wheels being on the outside of the track and the front wheels not slotting into anything either. But you can get it to look good despite that.

    - Yes the backpack doesn't lock/peg into anything. If you rotate Omega so his backside is facing the ground the backpack will slide out. However, you're not really going to have Omega in a position where gravity will be a problem with this anyway.

    - The leg guns. I still don't know what they were thinking here as with some remolding it could have easily opened up some more/better options. That said, there are options, but many of them aren't good. The guns are just too big and bulky to achieve decent positions where the whole assembly is flush to the leg. You think you're about to get that perfect position, and then try to rotate the gun around to find that its not going to give you the clearance for what you were trying to do. After a *lot* of fiddling I finally found something I like where they don't look so much like randomly attached kibble. I'll have to post a pic later.

Overall I am very happy with the set. It G1-ifies the mold even further, and I'm still surprised by how bulky he feels now.

edit: attached a picture with my preferred leg gun configuration. sorry for the crappy pic. :(

I hope every piece of this kit has a place to connect and gear up for thr MT Utopia (not-metroplex).
