iGear's Shark Attack Squad comes in a VERY big box. The figures and accessories are securely held in place by a plastic insert.

The three figures have different colored chest details and faces.

"Quint" has a light blue chest detail. His left eye is scarred and has red light piping in the socket. His mouth is open in a grimace.

"Brody" has the most "normal" face, with just a frown. His chest detailing is red.

Finally, we have "Hooper," who has a scar on the right side of his face, but his eyes are intact. Like Quint, he is also sporting an open mouthed snarl. Hooper's chest detailing is blue.

Each figure has his own stat card, but all have the same stats.

Each figure comes with a light-blue mace and two gray blasters.

In bot mode, compared to UT's Sharkies, these iGear Sharks have "better" (i.e., less distorted) body proportions and are slightly taller.

The iGear Sharks have universal (at the hips) and swivel joints that are considerably tighter than the ball joints on the UT Sharkies. iGear Sharks also have a combination ball and pivot joint on the feet which, combined with amply long heels, give the figues better balance and stability.

One notable negative feature of bot mode are the hollow calves seen from the back.

Transformation to alt-mode is basic, with the lower legs just folding up on the torso and plugging the mace on the back section.

The iGear Shark's alt mode is taller but narrower than UT's. Instead of gold, the Shark eyes are made of translucent yellow plastic.

One gun can peg onto shark mode.

Overall, compared the UT's offering, these iGear Sharks are more solidly built--the minor difference in size belies the significant different in heft and weight that you'll feel once you have the figures in hand. The iGear Sharks don't have the hollow feel that the UT Sharkies have and some fans complained of. Finally, iGear Sharks do not suffer from the issues that UT Sharkies have--loose horns, misaligned halves, loose joints.

Currently, iGear Sharks are more expensive than UT Sharkies by $10 per figure. I feel that the higher price tag is justified, though, given the following improvements:

    - No issues found on UT Sharkies
    - More solid build (feel and heft)
    - Tighter joints
    - Better proportions
    - Better balance and stability

To end, I recommend these figures 100%, especially if you have not yet purchased a modern version of the character. If you're choosing between these and UT Sharkies, get these, they're well worth the higher price tag.

    ***

Coincidentally, I have decided to sell two (2) of the three figures that you see here. $48 shipped for one, $89 for two. You can choose which among Quint, Brody, or Hooper you want to get. If interested, please send me a PM.

    Thanks for looking!

Brody, Hooper and Quint! Love it! A reference to the three guys on the boat that hunted the shark in Jaws!

Looks like the build quality and robot mode proportions are a bit better but I think UT blows this one out of the water in Shark mode.

Being a HUGE Jaws fan, I love the designations. With that said, that's about all I can get behind with this set. Overall, UT nailed the look.

Have any of you been able to get the legs flush with the body in shark mode? I'm having a hard time with that. Archie, I noticed your's aren't flush either. Is that just the way it is?

You're right. UT's shark mode looks better from the front, but from the side iGear wins with its more elongated shape.

Yeah, I tried to get the feet it more flush with the body, but that's as far as I can make it go.

The names are a great touch! I love that Quint is the most damaged of the three. It fits!

Is it designed for that, or is it just a happenstance that it fits?

Seems designed that way, it's a perfect fit. The smaller gun is just missing the pegs, it's so baffling.

I don't like the squashed face of the Igear shark, and the robot looks too heroic and doesn't match the "character " to me...

UT nailed shark mode, and the robot looks like a little fat man - which is more in character IMO.

You can fix UT looseness in the horns and stuff with a bit of superglue or nail polish. After that - perfect.

Great comparison shots. I am splitting a set with a couple locals, and like this version more in bot mode, but if things slow down, I may pick up a 3-pack of the UT version to have in shark mode.

I'm not super familiar with these forums yet but I assume it's okay to post a further review in an existing review thread? As opposed to starting a new thread?

I went back and forth on these and the Unique ones for awhile. On first blush the Unique Toys Sharks looked like the obvious choice. Look great from the front, are a little cheaper… but then I started looking at them closer. The Unique guys have that misaligned front that really bummed me out, from the side they look a bit off and flat faced. Their bot modes are also kinda dodgy proportions wise for me.

iGear's sharks aren't terribly accurate but the narrower mouth with it's long needle like teeth grew one me (it has a deep sea creature vibe like an angler fish) and I dig the style of the detailing on them. They also seem to be much better quality than the Unique guys.

What finally sold me though was the inclusion of the rather ostentatiously deco'd leader. They left him unnamed but given the other names I think Bruce might be rather fitting.

Anywho, my pics, I did get the Reprolabels for them as well, which snazzes them up quite a bit but haven't taken pics of them with the stickers yet.

Accurate or not, they're really cool versions of Sharkticons.

So roughly a year later, how are everyone's Sharkticons holding up? They're marked down nearly 50% on BBTS and I think it's time to take the plunge. :)

Also, I really only want one. Would anyone like to buy the other 2, or at this point would I be better off just listing the extras on eBay for $25 each?

At 50% off they are super worth it. I got them at like 10% off and still love them. Great quality of build and paint and they look really nice imo. Not terribly movie accurate but they're with my CHUG style stuff so that's totally fine.
