Here's the written/pictorial review from my site. Sorry about the delay:

In this review we get very “logical” with “Quake Wave” from FansToys! This is a big undertaking as it’s the first time a 3rd party company has made a Masterpiece-scaled toy with a completely new mold, and FansToys really knocked it out.

Out of the box, the first thing you’re going to notice is that it’s purple… very… purple. Not only that, but the main hues are a very bright tone. I tried my hardest to capture the color accurately, because I understand that it may be off-putting to some.

Aesthetically, he’s extremely accurate. Head-to-toe, you get a very accurate rendition to the Transformers character Shockwave that it homages. There are some areas, like the hips and legs, that aren’t entirely accurate, but they still look well. Those legs also have diecasting in the leg and feet areas, which gives him a nice, solid “feel” to go along with his enhanced, Masterpiece-styled poseability.

He has two battery compartments: In his head, and the forearm on his blaster side. These compartments take CR1020 and CR1025 cell batteries respectively. His “eye” as well as that blaster can each light up which is a very cool gimmick.

A very simple Transformation brings you into the blaster mode. I love the detailing throughout it, and the fact that the lightup gimmick for his arm blaster carries over into the cannon mode is a treat! I love that you feel the die-casting from his legs while holding the handle. The size of the gun also works very well for hands of all sizes. Honestly, the blaster mode is the the better mode of this toy, to me.

Very nice outing from FansToys on this one with their Masterpiece “Shockwave” that not only scales well next to other Masterpiece toys, but looks well too. The only problem I have is the shade of purple used for the majority of him, and the lack of any paint applications. Even with those, this is a toy I’d definitely recommend.

    Overall Score: 8.0/10

The version on the site also has a photo gallery, but that's the full review itself !

Nice, honest review TJ. I was already sold on this to begin with and can't wait for it to come in, but seeing your review made the anticipation even greater!

Thanks for giving us the heads up on needing to pick up the batteries.

What type were they? A C20 and what?

Just for fair disclosure, I don't believe there's any die-cast in the shoulder joints, just painted plastic.

Looks like you forgot to deploy the heels which helps his stability even more!

Also, the head can use a CR1025, per Fans Toys recommendation. It's tight, but it works fine. CR1025 should be easy to find anywhere that sells watch batteries or buttoncells in general (Walgreens, CVS, Rite-Aid, Kroger, Target, Walmart, etc, just find the watch battery display).

    Hey, np man!

I didn't get the figure from FansToys either. :-\

But, I'll admit this - If I didn't dig it, I probably wouldn't have reviewed it simply because it's not something I expected to have even.

C1025 for the arm C1020 for the head.

Sure. Will measure and report back when I add pics.

Thanks! And yea! Just was busy with other stuff tonight, but I'll load up the first post with some goodies.

I wish they would've wrote that you could use 1025s on the head too in the instructions, because that would've helped.

Walgreens and CVS didn't have these sizes (but, they could've been named something else). Neither did Target. I found the 1025 at RadioShack. They said that they have 1020s in the system, but neither RadioShack I visited actually carry them in store.

That's why I recommended to people to just order them online. That 1025 cost me 6 bucks + tax and online they're a dollar.

Would have been nice, I think they wrote it based on their local availability. Probably didn't realize that was going to be a problematic size until it was in print...CR1025 in the US usually just says 1025 on the package.

That said, no one ordering from me will be needing to find them, after all. After posting that it got me thinking, and I now have a few hundred of them on the way, a pair of which will be included in every single Quake Wave I ship. :)

Honestly, while a greta toy, I'm disappointed by 2 points:

    1. No real trigger.
    2. No sound.

Those two things would have made the toy near perfect.

Thanks for the pics! The only thing that puts me off slightly now is the saturation level of the purple, but it only seems that bright in your pics so I'm not sure how it will look just standing around in my collection versus a full on light tent environment.

Got him directly from the manufacturer, and I'm very pleased with the purchase. :thumbs2:

Note the flat black paint around the eye was added by me; it took all of five minutes to do, while the head was taken apart for CR 1025 battery installation.
Very simple to paint, and makes a big difference.

The toy-accurate overslung hose doesn't bother me a bit, since it's perfectly unobtrusive under the armpit, and looks exactly as it's depicted on the famous Marvel comics cover.

Now, there are some minor QC issues to address, only the least of which is that blotch of silver paint on the backpack...

Mine's missing half his index finger, which would be a big problem if I'd actually intended to use the translucent hand... but since I'll be replacing the hand with a more cartoon-accurate opaque one anyway, it's hardly something to worry about.

The only real issue I have with this figure, actually, is the finicky wiring in the weapon arm. The LED only works when the cannon is slid all the way into the forearm housing:

Slide it out even a millimeter, and the light goes out.

Since the cannon has to be slid halfway out of the forearm to be centered in gun mode, it means the barrel doesn't light up when he's transformed.
Not wanting to further damage what is obviously fragile wiring, I decided not to transform him again.

Frankly, a toy ray gun without a functioning trigger (or cheesy sound effects) holds little appeal to me anyway, so the failure to light up in alt. mode is hardly a deal-breaker...

Still, I wish I felt more comfortable transforming him!
