First impression:

-Solid!
-The plastic has the same smooth texture as the not-Insecticons.
-Joints feel strong and unlikely to wear out.
-Transformation for both Steel and Corer are fairly simple and intuitive; getting them locked together is very satisfying.
-Excellent paint apps, no quality issues.
-Highly posable.
-No obvious potential areas of weakness so far.
-Steel has an absurd number of joints for his size: balljoint head, limited range balljoint shoulders, swivel elbows, balljoint hips, swivel knees.
-Corer has triple jointed shoulders, double jointed knees and double jointed hips. Balljointed head, swivel elbows. Waist is on a swivel and ab crunch joint. Balljoint ankles and swivel foot.
-Heel extender for help posing, but unnecessary for stability.

-Transforming Corer's legs to vehicle mode is a little tricky due to getting all the tabs in place
-The hip extension transformation joint is very stiff; transform carefully.
-Ankle balljoints could be a little stronger.

The gun is held in both hands and functions as the hitch. The instructions do not say where the green piece goes.

 

Very impressive. Looks like Fansproject hasn't lost there touch. Though I'm not interested in this guy due to the fact that he doesn't really represent any in the TF universe, he does look reeeeeeeeeeally cool. I almost wish I had bought him just so I could give him his own name, function, etc. but that's a level of play that I don't really engage in any longer. XD However, this makes me verrrrrrrrrrrry excited for Broadside!

 

If this guy's any indication, Assaulter will be ridiculous in a good way.

Slight bummer that the green blade piece doesn't store anywhere in altmode, but I am still absolutely stoked.

Looks awesome, but I just can't bring myself to commit to buying it. For some reason I really like how the cockpit looks on his back.

Any hints of this combining with something in the future?

 

Nothing obvious. All the tabs and joints function internally.

On a serious note, are these shipping now or did you just manage to get one early somehow? Because the Fansproject website says they're shipping on the 31st of July, which is just over a week away, and if there is potential that it could turn up on my doorstep this week, that'd be really awesome.

I love the way this figure looks, and I really dig these non-Transformer third-party Transformers. That is, not inspired by a particular character from Transformers fiction.

 

Look at the two schemes folks digibashed on him a while back... I'd say it's an update on the Armada figure for Overload / Ultra Magnus... that good enough a reason to get him now? XD

And *great* pics process. Again, I regret passing up on the restock of Warbot Defenders early in the year... Steel Core and Defender pair up quite well... =.
