Many times my fingers hovered of the fp insecticons. I was never sure weather they fitted enough. I have seen pics of them with masterpieces and there size seemed alright maybe a tad small but not too much. But alas I never picked them up

Why does everyone have to make such a big deal about buying third party, really, they're just toys like Takara/Hasbro's, sure there's more variety and they are a bit pricier, but other than that they're just toys.

Pick what you really want and you'll be happy, for instance, if you have the cash available and you still have to decide if you really want to buy a figure, then it means you really don't want that figure and in that case you shouldn't be buying it, it's that simple for me!

And also, don't get sucked into the hype, if you're a masterpiece collector, specifically, there has been this growing and incessant need for people to shoe-horn anything advertised under the MP logo into their collection, what this usually results in...is buyer's remorse or at least people in denial of it. Take a look at the Kronos and KFC 'MEH' gnus threads to see what I'm talking about :lol

You see a figure you really want, watch a couple of videos to see if you really like what's going on and that'll help you come to a good decision. I personally don't pay much attention to what they say, but see the figure for what it is and then decide to buy. I've usually made up my mind on if I'm going to buy the figure or not by time I'm getting round to doing this, I only do it to reinforce my decision, that's all.

I think they are too small for an MP display.
They fit well with TW Orion scaled guys though....inc Warbotron guys.

    Others will disagree.

I agree. However the first 3P you buy is usually a big thing. For me it felt like soon as spend that money I'm making a commitment to the hobby. Now though it's just another toy like you say.

I think the big deal is due to 3Ps expense. It takes a lot of commitment to save up for and plunk down on an expensive unofficial release when you're used to just throwing $13 at the cashier of your local department store for a Hasbro mold. With Hastak you know what you're getting but 3P can be a gamble and a high expense one at that if you wind up with something like Citizen Stack.

As for me, my first was City Commander upon it's release. 48 3P additions to my collection later and I'm still here happily buying them up lol. Out of that 48 I've got one stinker; TFC's Shadow Roller. In truth I bought it for the light up weapons and while those don't disappoint in the least the actual figure has since been disassembled and sits in my parts bin.

IT's Medic and Valkyrie were disappointing at first because I was looking at them as my Classics answer for those characters. After a bit of thought they wound up as additions to my G1 collection and in that regard I think they're fantastic.

Those three releases taught me to do proper research before I buy which is very important when purchasing 3P. I can't stress this enough to new comers.

I think the Impossible Toys Quintesson was my first. City Commander was my first really expensive one.

I see your point, these are just toys after all. However it feels difference. This independent stuff is like a new level in the collecting world of Transformers. It's praised, frowned upon, debated, all of the above! It's kind of neat sharing your first third party item with the fandom just like it is with your first Hasbro/Takara product.

My first was City Commander, the add-on kit that arguably started this craze we know now (though not the first third party Transformer ever produced).

My first ever 3rd party toy I ever bought was TFC Battle Roller back when it first came out. such an awful toy. sold it as quick as I got it.

However, I also took the plunge on FP Warbot Defender. Had him for years until the Hasbro Springer came out, then I traded him away.

Been buying 3p stuff but I'm very selective now. I usually try to buy only what I plan on keeping.

Got Leo Dux first... "Oh man this is really nice, that combiner looks awesome. I may as well preorder the rest!"

Then I learned I had a combiner addiction, now it's Rex, Herc, Giant, Warbo, Quantron, etc...

    /sigh haha

yeah I think I have the same addiction. normal figures I tend to be able to ignore or at least talk myself out of. but small bots that turn into really big ones GIMME GIMME I think that's why I had to purchase warbo 1 hes just so big when I saw him next to optimus I nearly fainted lol.
so that's heavy, sly and airburst ordered hopefully all should be here soon. then just the the other two to order when the colour pics come in tho I don't know why I wait for those im gonna be ordering him anyway. than time to start warbo 3

Collecting combiners is a dangerous path to tread. My first third party figure was a combiner set and well, I haven't been able to buy much of anything besides tfs for the last couple of years.

Yeah I still look at green giant longingly. To me he is the perfect Devi. I just wish he was larger. I'm hoping warbos Devi will me more giant and less Herc. The insecticons I've wanted for years but never pushed the button. I'm so tempted now but I am worried takara are gonna bring them out next year
