Never been stated outright, but I've always been under the impression that Kaon's alt-mode is a Variable Voltage Harness, imported to IDW G1 from Marvel. Especially given Mr Roberts' self-described habit of being "steeped" in that kind of G1 lore.  

 

It's not, the Variable voltage harness exists in the IDW G1 Continuity and it looks pretty much exactly like it did in the Marvel comics.

Edit: The V.V.H is what Megatron is strapped in during Chaos Theory.

Even Tarn you're like oh he's just a tank that's not so bad but naw he has the ability to literally kill you with his speech. Just a casual conversation and boom you die. Such brilliantly messed up concepts these guys have.

 

So... how do you think they're gonna handle Tarn? His" face", his most recognizable feature, is A LITERAL REGISTERED TRADEMARK. No amount of tap dancing is going to make that a grey area like with their other stuff. Plus is they change the face then they've changed a fundamental part of Tarn's design.

I don't think Tarn's face is gonna be a problem, looking at Maketoys' Pandinus' tail. His tail is basically a giant Decepticon symbol.

 

That's already been discussed to death but the short answer is; only the symbol itself is trademarked but his face even though its very similar is not an exact replica of the symbol in shape or form so it exists in this convenient grey area. It helps that his head isn't just one big flat plate but is quite angular and sharp so from many angles it doesn't even look like the con symbol.

 

Odds are they'll deviate from the design a bit... and most likely some other group will take a Shapeways design resembling the proper head and mass produce.

I am all in on all of MMC's announcements, but give us some release dates, and meet them. I'm a patient man, but not for MMC's items.
