I wish that Frill was better integrated with the Triceratops head. Otherwise, I really, really like this guy and, hey! Who knew? Slag can carry an axe like he was born to do so.

Sometimes, you don't realize a character needed an item until you saw him with it, like Slag with an axe or Ultra Magnus with a Hammer...

I think the coolest part about this guy is the way the dino legs become the robot legs.

 

Love the alt mode. I'm really liking how FP is handling the dino limbs. I'm pretty disappointed in the robot head. Doesn't look tough, mean, or cantankerous enough. And I may be wrong, but it looks like they didn't give full sideways movement to the shoulder. That's a real bummer. However, they hit another home run with the weapon mode for the minicon.

 

It LOOKS like it's a stemmed balljoint going into a slightly protruding cup as the shoulder joint. Combined with the cut angle of the shoulder armor up top, we might be getting closer to a full 90 degree outward shoulder motion than you think.

Of course, only someone getting it in hand can say for sure.

 

Man, I really love the target master, wish they were available alone, if FP / MT is there tomorrow and if I go to the showroom, I might give him the suggestion.

I also like the robot mode a lot.

The thing for me is, I didn't love the dino mode as I did their Sludge seing it in person, and for me, having the whole set isn't a must, and dino mode is actually more important for me and it looked very strange, and he looked bigger than sludge and the alt legs were too big and really affected the whole overall shape of the dino. Most fans will probably love him anyways, as they will keep him in bot mode.

I might still change my mind of course.

 

It's the horns---I figured out what bugs me about alt-mode. The horns are mounted on the sides of the head, not "plugged into the front". That is unlike both G1 and real Triceratops.

He's got horns almost exactly like MMC Bovis. He's got bull-horns, on the sides of his head, like a mammal.

He should have Triceratops horn, mounted on the front. Right above his eyeballs, basically.

It just looks very wrong to have buffalo/cow horns, on a dinosaur.

Robo-cow, not Dino-bot.

Seriously, that head-on view---that's a cow-skull.

 

hah, didn't notice that till you mentioned it David, but yeah, that doesn't help.

 

Fair point, but at least some of the FOC concept art has the horns mounted on the sides of the head. However, in that case, they definitely lack the longhorn type linkage between the horns. I'd also raise only Animated Snarl ever had a red nose horn - G1 Toy, Toon, and FOC Slag did not, and it looks a little off.

Not to mention the poor decision to have a red botmode head, but that's more controversial.

 

Just no. Fansproject should have just focused on their Head masters series. Nothing about these dinobots makes me interested.

Slags head looks like it could fit on any generic cannon fodder transformer. Nothing about it says slag to me.

 

FP failed on the Triceratops mode in my opinion after seeing these pics. The bot modes of all three figures look great, but the dino modes, even Columpio just don't look right too me.

I vastly prefer the PX Swoop in Dino mode to what FP has done with theirs based on just the wings alone. I don't like the metal feathery look they went with on the base portion of the wing. The neck articulation on Columpio is a welcomed addition, but having seeing the dino mode of Neptune in person, he's huge and exactly what I wanted from a Sludge figure. I still think Netptune looks better in dino mode.

Scoria is still the reigning king of the Robo Triceratops' until we see what Giga and Planet X can do with theirs. FT really set the bar with Scoria as far as dino mode is concerned.

 

  Man, you gotta stop holding your iPhone upside down! It'll flip it on your screen, but doesn't change the actual picture so it'll be the wrong way round everywhere else!

Man all I see is nitpicking. Slag looks like slag so stop being so critical. Instead of complaining buy something else. Yes it's your right to say what you want but keep it to yourself. In my opinion this is perfect. Who cares if the horns are different it still looks like a triceratops. This beat mode is better than the G1 brick/potato.

 

Bah, I might get this Slag for it's bot mode and targetmaster alone, just because I love Coluuuumpio so much, even if the alt mode sux bad. He looks like a Barbarian in bot mode, I really love it, and am fine with the head color even if black would have been nice, it's still good. Will make up my mind later, depending how much money I have at the time, but really wish the alt mode was better.
