I'm interested in which 3rd party figure has enjoyed the most volume in sales?

I'm not interested in what is the 'best' as that is a subjective discussion.

Are there actually any sales figures out there? Does anyone have a guess where to start?

Price may be a factor but I'm also guessing that not all 3rd party productions have the same volume of units either.

 

This has come up many times before, no one really knows the numbers. We have been given estimates, manufacturing runs, and some ballparks by various sources, but nothing solid and concrete.

Of course, manufacturing runs may be different to actual sales.

Perhaps a starting point is to do a series of polls.

Sales figures seem to be treated on a par with the secrecy around the nuclear launch codes so unless some of our retail buddies want to chime in with actual facts about what they have moved we are unlikely to get anywhere with "numbers" here.

As pure guesses I would imagine some of the wider release Fansproject items may be in the running here. Just about everyone in the 3P threads claims to have started with City Commander (I did!) so that one should be in with a claim.

We know actual production run numbers from Arafat for Kronos and DalianJj has given numbers in the "thousands" for both Quakewave and Scoria, but without baselines to put them against who knows if that is good, bad or just middling for this stuff?

Even mainline Tak MP sales have been "guesstimated" as in the low tens of thousands (source: Some Guy in the MP Spec thread) so they may not be huge numbers.

 

I've often wondered this, just from an "academic" standpoint, but it really is impossible to tell, since "success" can be measured so many ways. Take quakewave... All runs of the figure have sold out. It's definitely a success... But no one knows what the numbers produced were. Similarly, kronos, limited to 1000 pieces, will easily be sold out, so can also be deemed a best seller, since 80-90% of stock was sold out during preorders...
Then you have pieces like Hercules, green giant, etc, which get small yet substantial reissue runs every year, so those could be seen as best selling too. It's so variable in this side of the hobby, that any definite metric is impossible to compare.
Others that could be considered best sellers would definitely be Faith Leader, Hegemon, and the igear cone heads...

 

I imagine the city commander mold with repaints and KOs has to be the most produced

 

maybe quakewave is in the running for this. I know hes pretty popular.

 

Its probably city commander based on the amount or recolors and reissues but like many have said it hard to say any one item specifically with out having sales data.
