...Megatron? Anyway, the fact that this thread exists is a tribute to both MMC and to the Dinobots. However, I think the Dinos and Arcee are risky for 3Ps (not that that has stopped anyone on Arcee) because each day that goes by without Hasbro announcing Generations versions seems more thunderously impossible than the last. Still, for all except Grimlock, I'd dig it. Realistically I'm not sure I could afford the whole team but if I could pre-order an MMC Slag tomorrow, I would. I'm not sure how anyone can look at the Feral Cons and wonder if they are able to make a cool-looking robot dinosaur.
I would L-O-V-E it if MMC tackled the Dinobots! My only concern would be; MMC has a tendency to 'spikify' their TF interpretations, with harsh angles, spikes, and lots of aggressiveness. Now, for the Dinobots this will work fine in some ways, but there is a subtle science to it and MMC would need to reign in some of their natural tendencies to 'steroid-out' their designs in order to do them justice.
If MMC took on the Dinobots, I think I'd have to preorder those too I wouldn't mind them combining, who didn't wish they could that back in the '80s? If they combined, however, I'd rather see the biggest Dinobot (Sludge) as the core and not the second largest (Grimlock). I hate every concept I've seen of the Dinobots, as Sludge looks drastically undersized to work as a limb with his brethren, which just isn't going to happen. To be honest, I don't know how you make a combiner out of these guys while keeping them somewhat symmetrical, they are all so different in so many ways, but if it were possible to make them look balanced and awesome, I'd be all for it. Otherwise, just Dinosaurs would be fine with me, though I'd still like Sludge to be the biggest of them all in all modes. I'm curious to see how MMC would handle the kibble. Would they homage G1 or do something more along the lines of HMS?
My colecting interest have swung back to be very much the G1 style...there's just a simpler elegance to the look that hits all the right nostalgia buttons with me....so the Planet X FoC versions are passes with me. I'd love to see the other 4 get the Masterpiece treatment but I don't know how likely that is...I'd applaud a solid 3rd party effort though and I thik MMC is the BEST group that could make it happen.
Some additional clarity. I absolutely, positively, do not want MMC to make MP dinobots. MP dinobots as in intending to look exactly like the G1 cartoon and be in scale with Has/Tak MP Grimlock. It will never happen, it is not their style and FansToys is the likely 3PC to pursue such an endeavor. I want reformatted Dinos. I'll likely buy all of the Planet X FoC dinos too, but I will still want MMC reformatted Dinos because I want THEIR take on them. I feel like the quality of their work would provide very sturdy and durable versions of figures I've wanted for decades! I want MP dinos too...but from Takara or Fanstoys.
Well...not total brick style...since the updated ones are all better than the originals. But next to the classic super robots the overly complex looking movieverse and some of the FoC guys look very out of place in the display. WHich is good because it gives me a lot more $$$ for quality pieces
Basically this. Their design style appeals to me, and I believe they'd make the best CHUG dinobots to date. For a group as iconic as the dinobots, we've gotten pretty poor renditions. MMC (IMO) would be the only group to do them right. I'd want them to scale with the rest of the reformatted line in bot mode. Hopefully that can be achieved without sacrificing too much in the alt mode, because above all the alt modes would matter most to me. Great, great, great looking dinosaurs that are full articulated and detailed and fun. Let's keep this thread going as to drum up enough interest to get their attention on this.
I would prefer them in the size of Ultra class. Something bigger or taller than the Voyager class but not quite MP size.
^ yes @Kaizen & rcho This team, above all others IMO, are an instance where the Alt mode is more important to me than the Bot mode. Out of all the cartoons/comics I'd say its the Dinobots that spend the most time in their Alt/ Dino modes to the point where their robot mode seems secondary at times. How disappointed were those of you who purchased Foc (not MP) Grimlock that he had no neck articulation (likely because of the light up gimmick), a swollen tail with no articulation, and a smaller than desired T-Rex mode to stomp and chomp decepticons with? I think Hasbro actually got his robot mode nearly spot on...unfortunately this just happened to be the mode I was less interested in. When I have my Dinobot team on display, I can assure you they will be in Dino mode. This is how my G1 toys of them are currently displayed. Now I need an updated very ferocious looking version of them to display!
I'd love to see 'em Reformatted... with dino-modes more fitting the current picture of how those dinosaur species were structured (mostly meaning, tails off the ground). If MMC also wanted to make a Combiner outta them, that'd be fine & fun, too...but secondary to seeing all of them made (tho save Grimlock for last, perhaps, since there's so many versions of him we might own) and being badass dinos & bots in their own right. I'd love to see Snarl first; mostly because he seems to get so little love compared to the rest, but also because I...I...actually had pajamas with Snarl on 'em when I was 8 or 9. Glow-in-the-dark pajamas. I like Planet X's Swoop so far (not so much the price, but whatever), and am interested in seeing their whole FOC lineup, but MMC & "Classics+" Dinobots akin to their Feral Cons seems like a great idea.
In the same line, i think MMC doing anything dinosaurish will be a big plus. Skylynx, Tripticon or even Reformatted versions of the Terracons, the latter im sure TFC is in the process of developing...
I think if MMC did the dinos I'd want them to just do an MP size Grimlock that is not G1 styled but is more derived from FoC Grimlock so as to better match the rest of their reformatted line. But I don't think they'd bother with the dinos honestly, I'd much prefer they tackle the likes of SkyLynx or Trypticon instead.
