You can use it as an dream, from now you can hard to learn relevant skills, not ridicue you, only some proposal for you. BTW, you know “industrial design” in university courses.
You can go to learn this specialized subject, May be more useful to you, i think!

Its good to start young. Its been exactly 10 years since I first told me folks I'm gonna be a toy designer. I had zero knowledge, zero experience and zero savings. No school will teach you what you need to know in this trade. Failure's your best teacher. Try, fail, think then try again. Repeat as necessary

Ehm... Whatever you like and that you can afford.

    How about becoming a Brony?

This thread that you started is not you asking what to buy, but rather asking people if they want to go with you on a 3rd party business.

Ive been thinking the same, the working on my 3d skills have been halted due to a computer crash.(saving for a new one +3d printer) I do have some scrach bulds in the works to learn more about protyping more so for my own IP that has transfroming bots with g1 inspired ones thrown in.Ive been looking at it as if i had to do it alone and i am willing to work with someone. And to be honest this is what i wanted to do back in high school.I even thought starting a kick starter to fund it (and as we type im saving for the 1st few molds) with in about two to three years ether put out add on kits that could be done at home or put out something for kitbashers i like to call probies(transformerable shapes that turn into robots that with add on parts can be made into any one )

Even smaller. Kitbashing to reshelling to scratchbuilding. Others have done it this way and it's also the father of 3rd party products.

Gotta give it to you, Gooba. You have ambition, but you still have yet to display if you have the necessary skills or backing to pull it off.

Kudos for the idea. Gain some experience under your belt and build up your credit worthiness. Don't give up on this dream (just don't be an impulse ideologist).

When a bro and a pony...

Brony- my little pony male fans. Although, due to it's popularity, the women for some reason are now part of it. Imagine a hipster that wants to be called a hipster who just happens to love little ponies prancing around.

Oookay, just gonna put this out there 'cos I teach kids roughly your age, including some with special needs.

    Wait.

Wait until you've actually finished business school to find co-investors for your potential company. Better yet, wait until you've finished business school and have a few year's experience behind you. In the meantime, try your hand at customising, working your way up to scratchbuilding, so that you get an idea of how to do it.
Wait until you've got more than $16,000 and a dream to put into it. More money and a good idea for a product - preferably something simple and easy to make that people will want, and as much money as you'll need plus a decent margin of error for cost overruns.
Have a good backup plan - as far as I know most 3rd party companies start out as small groups of fans that make some awesome stuff and are lucky enough to become popular. Have a reliable non-3rd-party job option going and do the 3rd-party stuff as a hobby, just 'cos you enjoy doing it. If it takes off, great; if not, you haven't blown a few grand on getting ripped off for a failed dream.
And for the love of God, don't look to an internet full of random strangers you've never met to join you on your enterprise. Find someone older, wiser, and far more cynical than you to be your partner/advisor, someone who's been burned a few times and knows what to watch out for as far as being scammed goes, and most importantly someone who genuinely gives a crap about you and/or the work you'll be producing. Preferably both. If you're really the indecisive type you'll really want someone more hard-headed around, or else you'll get taken for a ride.
And lastly, put at least $10,000 - preferably more - of that money of yours aside as emergency money. You may need it one day. Get yourself a nice treat or two, and keep the rest for when you need it.

As far as your Predaking dilemma goes:

If you want as close as possible to G1 but with better articulation: go with UTs Warlord. Maybe wait a while since they'll probably come down in price over time.

If you want a G1ish vibe with better size and quality, keep an eye on TFC Ares and see if you like what they're doing.

If you want not-very-G1-ish but high quality and complex, look at MMCs Feral Rex. Maybe wait a while and get their Felisaber and if you like that get the rest.

If you want to make your G1 Predaking more kick-ass, get the CrazyDevy King's PowerParts set.

Alternately, start with the 3rd party kit that really started it all: a classics Ultra Magnus and Fansproject City Commander set. It's expensive but it's a sweet piece of kit.

If you really can't decide which of the above options to go for, take a cue from the late Gary Gygax and roll a dice.
If you roll a 1, roll again.
If you roll a 2, get UTs Warlord.
If you roll a 3, get TFC Ares.
If you roll a 4, get MMCs Feral Rex.
If you roll a 5, get the CrazyDevy kits.
If you roll a 6, get City Commander.

I don't see it as ridicule buddy. The reason nobody can awnser what to buy is because everyone sees through different eyes. Kind of like I might think a girl is pretty and someone else might not. Same with collecting. people collect to different standards which if you hand around here long enough you will see. Personally I don't collect to the standards of size or series or scale, none of that. Basically if I see it and like it I buy it. I will make room for it some where. My style won't work for some but it's all on how you want you collection set up. Some want one of every figure and so forth. Anyways you have a good dream and my son loves transformers. We need people like you to keep this hobby and passion alive. Work hard and never give up, failing is the best teacher, but failure is no option. Like others have said you have to start somewhere, so good luck and godspeed.

I would save the money. You'll probably never ever get again so much money. The most I once had was 5000 €. Can't believe how so much money can be spend in such a short time.

i always think the girl is pretty... but i need new glasses and i'm often drunk...

kitbashes and add-ons seem a much more realistic intro into 3P

ive explored this idea but something stopped me dead in tracks
--- finding a quality manufacturer in an "IP Free" area, i.e. China.
its not like you can go over there and make sure you dont end up with CHMS quality...
you need to know someone. maybe venk can help you out.
