So I guess this close to the con, the colors can't be swapped? I liked the idea, but the colors should be reversed IMO.

Partly. It was also to make it a little more interesting than simply taking the colors of their corresponding ground and air unit counterparts. Color swaps are an SG standard, but it's fun to make them a little more interesting when possible.

Interesting. I don't even know who DJ Bighands is, so having a reference to him in there is unintentional. So was the allusion to Wash, though I can see where you get that.  

Ding ding ding! Yep. "Known 'verse" and "serenity" were intentional Firefly references.  

There will likely be some left for sale online after, so I imagine folks will have a chance.

Don't want to swap them anyway. Straight swaps and color inversions aren't the only way to do SG colors, and as others have noted this makes them more drastically different from the normal colors.

We just got the Justice Rhinohorn and the Dark Energon SG version in, they will be up soon.

That's what I was saying. Being a flyer, who can't be touched, serenity and 'verse. What's where I got Wash from Firefly.

 

Oh well. I would have preferred the same colors layout as Slamdance since he has the same colors. If radically different was the idea, maybe base them on something other than Slamdance to begin with? No matter. I'll buy them anyway because I'm a sucker for tapes.

Any word on the blue repaint? That's the one I wanted to get from you.

It's not that I don't understand the reason some folks think the other way around might be correct, but that's not always been the case even in official SG media. Since there is no official way, a choice was made, partly in order to be less of an obvious choice. FWIW, even if we hadn't done these, this color arrangement is actually what they already had in mind. Indeed, the promo image with the blue background already existed before I approached them about this. Personally, I think adding that little extra twist is much more fun than just giving them the counterpart's color directly, so that's what I asked for.

The blue Rhinohorn was not available.

 

Yes, we do understand that SG is not always Autobots and Decepticons swapping colors. In fact that's only about half the SG character's way of doing things.

The options seem to be:

1. Same colors as G1, maybe some darker/lighter tones (Jazz, Blurr, etc)
2. Colored like some obscure recolor of their toy, so we can repurpose that toy. (Huffer, Soundwave, etc)
3. Swapped color with some opposite number character. (Cyclonus, Wreck-Gar, etc.)
4. Just use some toy with the same basic alt mode (Beachcomber, Seasray, etc.)
5. Make up something wacky. (Sky Lynx who transforms backwards, Wheelie is a giant, etc.)

SG is not supposed to be an exact opposite reality, it's a broken funhouse mirror.

Still, I think more than one person has mentioned they wanted SG Boxbomber to match G1 Slamdance's colors, no one suggested he should match Slamdance standing on his head. Personally, if I had both colors available, I'd buy red on top Boxbomber without hesititaion. If my prefered deco is not going to exist, I'll get the red on the bottom one just to fill in the character.
