On the plus side, the FP version's head has room to slip in a faceplate. There is a group (sorry I forget the name) making things for FP Smart Robin, maybe a faceplace is a part of it.

The head on the TW version is worlds better than the FP version but the FP version is better every other way (personal opinion) Once a simple faceplate is made then the TW version will no longer be able to compete.

^I just hope the resin upgrade kit + shipping to Europe doesn't cost as much as Smar Robin...

Clearly, the majority prefers ToyWorld's head. Since Hardbone's socket is compatible with all the G1 heads -- and HeadRobots upgrade kits -- and Code is not, can we assume these won't be interchangeable?

Personally, I'm dumping my "Smart Robin" immediately and going with this Brainstorm; he's larger, more accurate, and undoubtedly more articulated.
What's more, he's immediately recognizable as the character he's meant to represent (something FansProject always has trouble with).

Huh...I've never really had trouble identifying who the FP Bots are supposed to be, must be just me...As for the articulation dig, also not seeing that to be the case. But I hope you enjoy Toyworld's version, they've manged to do pretty well to date.

Past experience -- Hardbone vs. Code in particular -- and the obvious shoulder kibble on Smart Robin looks restrictive...

Still, we are certainly spoiled for choice. FansProject and ToyWorld are both reliable companies with top-notch figures under their belts, and there's no reason not to expect both Brainstorm figures to be excellent. It's a damn sight better than what HasTak has given us.

Surely a version of Highbrow would have made SHITLOADS more sense...I picked up Hardbone on the basis that he didn't appear on the FP design sheet:

And there's no Highbrow there either, so that would have been an easy yes from me. There's also the issue of scale and price. I'm quite alright with Hardhead being bigger than the other Autobot Headmasters, but the rest I'll want to be more or less comparable with each other. If Dickbraintstorm is a similar size to Hardbone, that would be a problem for me, as well as pricing.

I also wouldn't be surprised if FP's Brainstorm has an optional faceplate, given the variable head design of Broadside...

Since Hardbone went for what? $100. I would not be surprised if Mastheader goes for the same. Since Smart Robin is going for $69, that is where I'll be going.

I don't see your logic there... You are saying a JET should be smaller than a TANK to look right?

I'm thinking Toyworld is not that worried about FansProject. They are both doing their own thing. Very different in size class, style and compatibility. Where Code is a tiny, inarticulate incompatible, wrongly colored toy, Hardbone is not. I'd hope Toyworld makes the whole Headmaster line! Nothing FP makes is comparable.

Based on FP's Code, one can expect smart robin to have a similarily lacking hm pilot/companion. Code's hm is sooo simplistic, barely a step up from G1 articulation. Worse yet, FP has made there hm bodies compatible with just their pilots/partners. Those are deal breakers for me.

Personally liked Code's HM more than Hardbone's... it's just more functional, stable and attractive... both as a head and as a bot.

Also want to point out though that I think it is great that we, the fandom, have a choice of which version of the figure to get.

Note that the thread was renamed by the mods. For all I know its a typo for HeadMaster. I don't even see that name at the Toyworld site. So, if you folks have a better answer than asking me back a question, please let me know.

Yeah... pretty nuts considering the character is fairly obscure.

Does that make Grind Rod a Bot-Throttler?

The Headmasters were the stars of a whole series in Japan. Not that obscure.
