I'm not sure of there is a thread like this one already.

But Seeing as there are two different Predaking sets coming out from Mastermind Creations (Ferocicus) and a new company, Unique Toys (Beasticons), one must have seen both and is perplexed as to which one to get for their collection. Myself included. ><

Mastermind Creations is known to create high quality products from their take on the Hearts of Steel timeline. And their "reformatting" of the Predacons made me wonder if these guys carry an updated look or will stick with the Hearts of Steel theme. I've seen the prototype pictures and it doesn't look like Hearts of Steel. Though I could be wrong. :/

Unique Toys seems to be going the route made by MakeToy by updating the original design for Predaking to give them a more G1 look and feel. Especially when compared to the original toys you can see the resemblance. The combined mode for Unique Toys looks bulkier than MCC's version to fully give the feel for the original.

I haven't made any preorders yet because I want a set that's going to fit into scale with my other combiners (FP Bruticus/Superion, MakeToy Green Giant) and because I just ordered Year of the Snake Omega Supreme.

So which set has your vote and why? Do we go with a totally redesign as set by Mastermind Creations? Or do we go with an update to the original design as set by Unique Toys?
Both look fantastic but I know there are many who remain undecided. Any info you guys can post will help not just me, but everyone else who remains undecided.

I'm getting MMC. More articulation and larger figures for not much higher than UT. Also really liking the proportions on the MMC combined mode compared to the UT one (I actually think the MMC one is bulkier, the UT one seems kind of lanky to me). Helps that MMC actually has a reputation while UT doesn't.

I hate the shoulder cannons on the UT version. That alone made up my mind, even though there are many other reasons to choose the MMC version.

MMC all the way. I use 3P figures to fill in holes in my Classics display.

Classics = New engineering with updated look

Classics =/= New Engineering on a G1 figure.

I'm not bashing UT's release, there is a big market for what they are offering. I am just not a part of that market.

MMC. Their sculpts/designs are far superior, IMHO.

MMC, hands down... They really smoked UT on pricing and overall look of the figures.

I'm getting both for now and may unload the one I like less later. Be careful about saying that MMC is beating them in price. I'd be delighted if all 5 come with a 25% preorder discount, but I'm betting they are just doing that on the first one to hook us (hopefully I'm wrong).

MMC is going to discount each pre order for a certain period 15-20 percent.

You are wrong. Cenokibble told us today that all 5 figures will have the early bird price. Maybe not as big of a discount but between 15-20%.

Also Tantrum/Bovis is up for preorder as of today. As Ceno also told us, the legs will cost more than the arms because they are bigger and come with more accessories.

First G1 Predaking is not a poor figure, and there are 3rd party add ons to further improve it. As such I don't really see the need for a G1 homage figure with improvements like MT Giant. Devastator was a poor figure that could fall apart if you looked at it funny, all the while not being all that big. MT Giant is a masterpiece that fills the need for a quality G1 looking Devastator.

I consider the G1 Predaking already a pretty close example of that. Give it a huge sword, some cannons, and perhaps larger wing backpack.

So a expensive 3rd party figure that gave him articulation and corrected some of the size issues that the original had wouldn't draw me in completely. I'd think that looks cool, but would think all it is, is a G1 Predaking with better hands, proportions, and some extra articulation. With some nods to the G1 animation model that the G1 didn't really have.

Another thing that really hurts Unique Toys is that while this figure could simply be amazing much like I think MT Giant is, is the fact that this is there first venture. Its tough for people to throw down 5 to 6 hundred dollars on a unknown.

I with with Mastermind for a number of reasons. I won't lie number one was the pre-order discount. Two being that I have one of there previous releases and thought that it was a solid piece (Hearts of Steel Prime), the third being that even though their version of Predaking isn't a straight G1 homage that fixes the problems of the G1 it isn't a completely different figure either.

They look like they could have the Hasbro Generations/Classics brand to them and fit right in with those lines.

If anything I would say there version looks closer to the idealized G1 figure, much like MT Giant does, while UT's looks more blocky. Which is what I felt Hercules looked like.

I think both will be amazing figures, but I think the fact that G1 Predaking is a solid figure in its own right will hurt at least one of them.

MMC, no contest. The overall aesthetics on the UT version really, really don't work for me. Clearly other people like them, but I honestly think the toys look awful. The Ferocicons, on the other hand, trip damn near every single one of my style triggers. And with MMC having a proven track record and offering a healthy discount on early pre-orders, I don't see any reason to go with the UT ones, personally.

Was never much of a decision for me... I find the UT version to be extremely dull. MMC will have my money... lot's of it unfortunately.

Woah, is this really MMC Predaking (not shopped or anything)? The early visuals showed a Predaking with even bigger proportion problems than Hercules/Uranos (super long legs, super slim thighs and such) but this looks ace.

So far, IMO, MMC wins this by a landslide. And that rendition above is just amazing. And if MMC keeps their products as close to that, along with the quality. It's just possibly the best transformers toy (3rd party toy or not) ever made. (I love Rodimus Convoy masterpiece if it wasn't for the quality of the product)

MMC's design and production of a transformer toy has just taken this to another level. And brought transformers to whatever the next century lies ahead. Still love FP products, :D , which have and will produce quality TF toys.
