Are the stories about about Fansproject and Maketoys being closely tied true?

I just find it kind of odd both have had a few of their products knocked off at this stage.

According to the info on that auction, about 1000 yuan, convertible to about $160

Supposedly they shared (or rather once shared) common staff or something to that effect. MT Toys were shown on an FP booth initially, well something like that, and that's how it started. Tight association wasn't confirmed though.

they allegedly shared the same factory/production facility, as opposed to staff.

The KO sucks and I am supporting MT by buying their version at full pop but... MT really needs to get a handle on these KOs that are released a month after the official product. Like buy a plane ticket and visit the Fn factory stealing your shit.

The silver lining is that the mould has been paid for via Yellow Giant so it won't sink MT AND people who can't swing the $350 price tag can still enjoy Giant. I hear the KOs are basically the real deal and equal in quality. (or so it went with Battle Trailer).

All in all MT needs to get a handle on this.

I'm seriously considering the KO if the quality is up to snuff.

The reason for the KO is that they are made for China. FP and MT figures are more expensive to buy in China, compared to TFC or Perfect Effect items. Each Hercules figure is like $60 in china.

Anyways, the fans are not happy with how much it costs to get FP or MT figure, and how hard it is to find them, so their is big demand for their items to get KO'd as a cheaper alternative. For other 3P stuff, it doesn't make sense to KO, as they are easy to get, and relatively cheap.

Wow 160 for a high quality ko? I might consider getting both colors. The ko are normally the exact same or close to the originals. It's still weird seeing a unlicense company get ko.

I LOVE it. Hope Maketoys enjoys the taste of irony. They rip off Hasbro/Takara's IP & someone rips off them. Sign me up for the KO.

This KO is in the same league as Igear Seekers and I won't touch either.

The difference is that creativity, time and money were invested by Maketoys making Green Giant a reality, so that's where my money is going. Hastak would have my money if they made their own version, but they so far haven't shown any inclination to make an updated classics style Devastator, so there is no loss.

I view making a KO of a current piece far worse than copying old / out of production items. Few get upset about KO City Commander as it's already had it's day and FP have moved on. Copying Battletanker and GG is disturbing, as it will have a direct effect on them.

Last I looked making a homage 30+ year old toy is not "ripping" someone off. Maketoys and Fans Project have always been respectful towards Hasbro and Takara, by making clear distinction between their products and official ones. Also hoping for misfortune towards MT and FP, or any one for that matter, is extremely distasteful.
