I don't see the problem. Chest plate attachments and other types of additional integrated parts, most of the time, can make figures a lot better. It's just something that I wouldn't mind seeing.

I would hate to see them ruin what is appearing to be the best Predaking ever by nonsensical bulking methods.

There's nothing inherently wrong with that approach.

But at the same time, we're in the modern era now, and engineering has gotten far better. It feels more "authentic" to have the figures achieve as much of the transformation as possible on their own, instead of relying on magical accessory parts to do the work for them.

 

That's pretty much the concept of a shellformer. Big Convoy =/= Big Convoy w/o parts. They look like two completely different figures. Granted, he looks better with the added parts, but in this case I don't think Predaking really needs the added bulk. Hopefully we see a new mock up of the completed version to finally put the matter to rest, but I think we can all agree that as it is, > UT version.

 

I dunno, I can totally see the alt bird head sitting on top of the bot head facing forwards, ready to fold up accompanied by, presumably, a piece from (under?) the chest to cover the bottom half of the face with a beak piece or some such. But I guess we'll see!

It actually becomes quite addictive when you've got a lot of preorders on the go and such - "I'll just wait for this one last thing to come in stock, then ship." I've said that more'n once I can tell you! PoL's been there best part of a year, with a grand's worth of stuff sitting in it now. And that's not the biggest I've seen on here by a long shot!!

It sounds to me more like opt1musaber is a fan of partsformers, rather than shellformers. And who isn't?   *ducks*

 

Big convoy is a shellformer, but what that has to do with these figures leaves me confused. Adding an accessory to a figure doesn't make it a shellformer and in this case they aren't even shellformers to start with. In this case it wouldn't even be partsformer, but that's the closest thing to what it would be if you had to choose.

You obviously have no problems with how the combined mode looks, I said I wouldn't be disappointed either, but I would like for them to bulk up the torso somehow if anything. Something along the lines of FP Bruticus add-ons, but to fix up the torso. They added excellent accessories to Bruticus Maximus, that was integrated perfectly for all modes. I don't see how the same concept couldn't be applied here. The only difference is this wouldn't be an add on, just be a small fix to their product. That's just what I would like to see. Of course I don't want extra parts just for the sake of bulking him up and no other uses in other modes, if that were the case I would prefer it as it is by a mile.

 

If only MMC provides us with a clearer picture (figuratively and literally) of the combined mode, some of these arguments will be laid to rest.

I have a feeling that the silhouette render, or the perspective that it uses, just distorts the proportions of the figure (e.g., big legs and arms, small torso). Again, a pic of a test shot or proto of the entire figure would confirm or invalidate this. If a proto is not yet available, then maybe the latest render will do, but in black and white at least? We should now move beyond the silhouette since preorders are already up.

 

Exactly. All this debating about something that's not clear and possibly may have changed. I'll say no more until I see more pics. Who knows they may have bulked up the torso, here's hoping.

 

I doubt it does that. Just compare the clear pics of the bird bot.

 

There don't seem to be new pics of the bird bot in arm mode, so it's hard to say just from the recently released shots of the bot and bird mode.

Also, yeah judging how the recent pics of the birdie is significantly different from the silhouette, something significant may also have changed for the other members and the combined mode. And seeing that some board members are not completely sold on (or maybe dislike) the project based on incomplete and/or inaccurate information (i.e., the silhouettes), it's in MMC's interest to provide more info.

 

The torso is uber tiny. Let's all hope.

the biggest (only?) mistake MMC has done here is making Razorclaw the same size as everyone else. It may be accurate, but it makes for a less than impressive combined mode. especially with legs THAT big.
Although the comparison to FoC Bruticus is close to heresy, it's unfortunately not entirely unjustified.

 

So if someone mentioned this I am sorry but 60 pages is a lot to go thru. How big is it? I am debating on whether to get this or Unique Toys version. I am leaning towards this one but if the other is bigger, you know bigger is better.

This one's Bigger. Should be about Herc Height if not slightly larger.

 

This one is apparently slightly taller than Hercules. There isn't really any clear indication on how big the UT version is yet, but it's generally assumed to be smaller since its limbs are Deluxe sized, while MMC's limbs are Voyager sized.

 

I kinda went by this, seeing as this was used as the template if I am not mistaken.
