OK, got home from work and took some pics for you all

As you can see, the back of the kneecap at the top is rounded, while the bottom part is angled - this is how the knee should be. Previously, the figure's right kneecap was upside down, with the rounded part at the bottom and the angle at the top. This was preventing a solid click when extending.

Also, just because I'm so thrilled with having the option - you can mount the fusion cannon on the top of the arm if you choose

How much of a pain is it to fix the leg? Should I hold off for v2 or should I give in and grab this guy now? I'm on the fence and have been going back and forth for the past few days.

Unlike a lot of transformers toys, removing the pin on the leg was pain-free. The pins don't have the spikey grips on the end, so a little nudge with a hammer and blunted nail worked a treat, and I was able to get it back in solidly with no problems as well.

The only other thing I would suggest when putting everything back together is to make sure the knee is in the 'straight' configuration when reassembling, because that joint is too tight to move with your fingers - and go easy when rescrewing the screws into the clear plastic, as it could crack if you go overboard with the tightening.

You really captured the swirl marks on yours well in that second pic...are all of them that bad or is it more hit and miss?

I would assume that they all have it - but to be honest, I barely even notice it in-hand - maybe because I just love everything else about the figure...might bother other people more.

I don't mind a little swirling as long as the plastic has a nice metallic look to it.

That could work, actually. And with a different barrel piece, the altmode wouldn't even be too off.

Can you tell if the knee part is upside down just from looking at it in robot mode? Or do you have to transform it or take it apart to know for sure?

You can tell by looking at the back of the knee in robot mode if it's in the right position or not - just look to see which side is round and which is angled - that's how I first noticed the difference.

Okay, so picked him up at the post office this morning--nice figure. It just IS Megatron.

But I've found a major problem with mine:

The ball sockets holding his hip kibble are stressed on the outside and cracked on the inside.

This is the one that rotates. His panels kept popping off when I was transforming him, and I finally found out why. I'd have to take him apart to see how far down that crack line goes, but it's pretty nasty.

The other side has it too:

No forcing of parts or being harsh with him (not at $100). I don't know if anyone else has reported this issue or if I just got lucky. Having gotten him from Robot Kingdom, I don't think I have much in the way of options. Except superglue on the outside of the crack (while it's 'spread' so they have enough room and won't crack further--which means the ball joints will likely be popping out whenever I transform the guy)

Rest of the figure is just fine. None of the issues mentioned so far. Although I did find one panel that his shoulder hinge hides in won't 'close' when in gun mode (below, in red) and the hinges around the pins of those same hip kibble panels are rather sharp (in green) and make it uncomfortable to hold him in gun mode. It's not just flare, either. I'll have to sand down the edges a bit to make that easier.

Overall, it's a good figure. I'm still not entirely sure if he's worth the $100 though. DEFINITELY a much better gun mode with all his parts attached. But I think for the sake of not wearing those sockets out he won't be seeing much gun mode time. (which rather defeats the purpose of the thing...)
