Lit only using the sword... grabbed with like, a 5s exposure... came out soooo nicely... I have to do that more often. Just added a Levels filter to key out the scratches on the background (black construction paper that leaves nasty white scratches ftl), otherwise the pic is pretty much unedited.
Lit only with the sword? Holy crap dude... I tried the same thing and it doesn't look anywhere near as good! What was your ISO at?

He wrote that he took it with a 5 second exposure. It has nothing to do with ISO. The longer the exposure, the more light your lens has time to absorb. With an average shutter speed for a controlled lighting pic probablu being about 1/20th-1/40th of a second, then that should explain how much light 5 seconds can bring in.

Well, while the RTS Prime figure is based on G2 Laser Prime, many folks know the mold most famously as one of the first "Evil Optimus Primes," known as Scourge in Robots in Disguise. More often than not, black repaints of Prime wind up being named Nemesis Prime now though. Maketoys said they'd make a Nemesis/Scourge should the figure be repainted as such. But now, seeing that there'll be FOUR repaints of the RTS Prime mold, well Maketoys has their work cut out for them... heh.

F-stop: f/3.1
Exposure: 1.9s
ISO speed ISO-64
Exposure bias -0.7 step
Focal length 4mm
Max Arpeture 3.26

So my mistake... it was about a 2s exposure.

Here's another shot... again, blacked out the background since I need a new background that doesn't get scratched up... =(

Well I know what my problem is now, lol...not only do I think my camera doesn't even have the ability to have those things adjusted, I wouldn't know how to adjust them even if I could

I'm trying to figure out how his shot is so much more well let with a 2 second exposure, while a similar shot I did with a 15 second exposure was so much darker. I'm comparing the EXIF data but I'm in over my head.

For reference, my shot:

See? Way less awesome.

HEy, thanks man. It's nice to have the ability to add that sense of depth and give a true feel to the image. I'm glad you appreciate stuff like that.

Does your camera not have tools to assist in shooting? ATM I'm using a Finepix S4000, which is a "bridge" camera. Has a number of tool-assisted features for shots... like ATM, I was using a "Program AE" mode, which give me 3/4 different Arpeture/Shutter recommendations, then leaves me to pick one, and adjust the exposure bias and ISO.

For all intents and purposes, you probably could just copypasta the setting you see on other shots and see what that does... or again, ask a pro like TJ Duckett over here... always on these threads. ;p

...I'd beg to differ... TBH... that's kinda what I wanted in the first place! LOL

I have this crappy makeshift light room... so it wasn't pitch black in the first place. That probably is it. I feel like retrying this now that I found my tripod... brb.

...yea... it was the lighting all right... =.

So I put some poster boards around the box I had set up... here's the first two results... about 2s exposures each:

...still a bit bright... forgot the front of the area needed covering... so I improvised further... tossed a sweater in front.. LOL. Here's the results, with 8s exposure now that it was almost pitch black:

Shot in "Manual" Mode... but tbh... it's kinda like the other presets my camera has... you can tweak three variables at best: F-Setting, Shutter Speed, and ISO... *smh*
