Please use Marcelo's freebie Gluppers (yes I know it's G1uppers, thanks Process for getting Gluppers in my head everytime I see their logo  )! It's THE best, it's got that Animated chin...everything is better with more CHIN! SPOON!

 

Looking at Derrick's twitter, you can tell he drew his head because none of the others were "animated enough". He obviously drew it for them to use. It's basically his gift to them. He did it because he wants their set to turn out right.

They would have to be insane to turn that down, and use something else. If they don't use the design given to them by TFA's actual character designer, then whatever they do make won't be Animated Menasor.

 

You have to rate DJW. The man is so in love with his Animated project that he will help an unofficial group just to see it done right. How many people would do that? Most would bitch up a storm.

I'm going to technically give you a swift kick to the nuts with steel tipped boots in a minute here...

I wasn't crazy about Marcello's design because it clearly homages the G1 toy, which is something I very rarely do. In my mind, Animated has always been a love letter to the G1 cartoon, and the other shows that followed. I always wanted my toys to be show accurate.

The helmet did turn out looking similar to Megatron's, but if you look at the G! cartoon model, you will see where those shapes came from.

Anyway! This is probably my last Transformer design for a while. I really felt that Botcon 2011 was a FANTASTIC way to cap off the series, and it gave me a lot of closure with the feelings i had from TFA ending sooner than we had hoped. That and I am totally swamped with work right now, and need to get back to drawing super heroes, meddlers, and universe of aliens.

So, enjoy loving or hating on it as usual! I will be eagerly awaiting the ******ed theories on why it sucks from the usual know-it-alls that think cartoons drop out of the sky onto your illegally downloaded streams!

 

At this point, G1Uppers would be absolute fools not to use DJW's Menasor. Not only is it essentially canon, it's the best looking one so far, too.

Thank you so very much for everything you did with Animated. The designs were so fresh, so different and so beautiful. I don't think any other TF toy captured as much personality as your designs allowed for.

Thanx DJW you made an old collector find love again for the franchise after Japan(A/E/C) and Bay almost killed it.

That is not what I said. I said it concerns me that the folks making the kit aren't getting it right. What does that mean for the rest of the project that doesn't include the head? Are they going to miss the mark there too?

 

With DJW showing up I think I need to backpedal a little and say I didn't DISLIKE the official DJW design. THANK YOU for it...and for ALL your work on this series!!!

I'm buying Menace regardless, but if they use EITHER of the designs we will be better off for it.

DJW what you did with Animated was nothing short of pure gold (and we all know how the price of gold is sky rocketing)

It was by a fan for the fans and yet catered to all the rules and principles of television and aquiring a new fan base. I dunno how or what you did but damn you did it so good.

The show and the figures look nothing like anything before it and havign those designs on my shelf breathed a new air of life into my collection.

And you designed BULKHEAD nuff said.

Crucify me, I don't like DJW's Menasor's head sketch.

 

I dont always agree with what Mr. Transbot here says, but I cant agree more with the above statement.

Animated was the first TF cartoon since G1 (and that was only after I bought the DVD sets) that I watch from beginning to end. Great 'toon, great story and great characters. And the toys were just as cool with just as much personality.

So yes, thank you DJW (and all the other folks that poured their hearts into that series).

As for this Menace-or, I think all the heads that have been shown look good in their own way. Of course DJW's Menasor head looks the most Animated like, imo.
