All I have to add is a big thank you to Derrick for a such a great Transformers series and being so accessible to the fans. It's cool they we can have these kind of interactions. I'm all the more looking forward to Menasor because of this!

Have you ever worked with an art director?

This is a strange argument. It would have to be some kind of Bizarro alternate reality where I would design stuff completely unlike the things I design.

Not a big fan of the DJW design, but then again I'm not a huge Animated fan to begin with (loved the storylines, the animation not so much). Still, I wouldn't mind if there were multiple heads to choose from.

    here's how.
this is a shot from the most recent botcon comic, It features Animated depth Charge, the same Animated Depth charge DJW drew and posted to his twitter,[IMG] same as here. So your arguement is that his Depth charge design was completlly unofficial......until it wasn't. BUT....do you honestly believe that ANYONE would present a depiction of a character in Animated diffrently once DJW was laid down a design?

yeah but to be honest most of the art directors I work for are not the most experienced. Mostly the films I get to work on are funded by goverment art grants so it tends to be people just leaving their masters/doctorates or people who have had low level jobs who are taking on students and recent grads.

I know its nothing worth talking about in the scope of what animated was in fact its really a whole different ball game.

To be honest the last year and so far this one has not been good for me. The UK industry seems to be becoming CGI focused given how well Soho is doing (if you've sat down at the end of any summer block buster you will at least see 1 uk based company in the credits) and 2D is just cheaper to do in other places and I hate to say it but quality wise the UK just is not the best place to be... unless you enjoy motion tween.

wow I've made myself rather depressed now.

Um, bullshit. He wouldn't have designed one of those 7 heads, because they don't fit the Animated style at all. Cute that you're trying to say I like something JUST because he drew it, and have no personal taste of my own.

Any TFA fan can look at those six collected heads and tell you that while good designs, they are terrible Animated designs. As an animated fan, of course I'm going to want a Menasor add-on that will actually FIT the style of the series. Both Marcelo and Derrick delivered that. Their designs are TFA through and through.

a few of the heads they showed are good heads, but terrible Animated heads. They'd work fine in a classic style series. They don't belong on anything meant to go with TFA toys, though.

    weren't you ignoring me?

ok honestly I'm not down for this kinda stuff I don't know about you but I don't enjoy this type of back and forth posts trying to 1 up each other.

also I'm not sure what your point is I never said it could never be used or that it could never become official down the line infact i'm for both. I just said that untill theirs a connection to hasbro its not official, in my eyes but feel free to think different.

Now if some one else wants to use DJW designs for official work go for it their awesome. Will others try their own when theirs a pre-existing DJW design out their? I actually think that an interesting question that I'd enjoy to hear a round table discussion on given DJW basically establishing the look but many other artists use it as a spring board for their own ideas. Maybe they feel that using DJW's work will make life easier for them given how they tend to be seen as a popular choice plus you wont get any backlash from fans if their own is not as popular... I dunno I'd ask the artist if I knew who drew it.

^ THIS. We don't know if Has/Tak's contract with DJW still exists, and furthermore whether there's options to take *anything* related to TFA done by DJW as their property for future use.

^ This applies to not only art, but in other fields. In fact, due to conflicts of interest, they could even add clauses to claim outside work that is COI. At my last software job, they had the gall to say that they do so for anything tangentially related. (Amusingly they told us we could do outside work... yea, funny.)

Not me. I liked the 3rd and 6th head, but all the heads don't seem to fit the aesthetic... exaggerate a few features here and there and maybe they'll work.

Again, he was under contract with Has/Tak at the time. They could've either exercised the option to add it to the TFA IP, or when they had him work on that comic, given him the option to add any designs he made outside work, and incorporate it... thereby making it official property of Hasbro.

Companies have many ways to own items that belong to their workers, whether they explicitly did it during their work time, or simply while being a contracted worker.

Thank you for saying that. I get so many arguements from people on the board that think they know something cuz they ask for facts yet supply none of their own. You sir are the ultimate authority in this thread and reading these posts, they are still arguing your statements. lol

And do not die. You are the greatest hope at resurrecting Animated.

I can't believe you are trying to debate facts with the guy who is Animated lmao

You do know you are talking to DJW right? Mr. Animated? The guy that when he draws it it becomes the official animated version of that character? Just stop the arguing and try to learn a thing of two from him. The fact that you are getting any of this guys attention and wisedom should be used for growth not for ignorance.

With the experience DJW gained on Animated alone (forget the rest of his career before that) I think he knows what he can or can't do legally. And don't bother arguing it because this is DJW here, live and in living color, not a friend of a friend who once saw an actual cell used in Animated.

Are you serious? None of the designs look Animated. One thing about DJW, he knows the Animated style and ..well he invented it and you will never mistake it.

    And thats the bottom line.

about the legalities. I am sure Animated is nothign more than a legal clusterfuck these days. Remember it was a joint effort between Hasbro and CN. Hasbro owned the TF and the toys, CN owns all things TF Animated. As we all know they went their seperate ways and left Animated in ownership limbo. Whatever the case, this is not even a Hasbo issue it is a Cn issue (if there is a legal issue here, which there isn;t cuz DJW is an industry veteren not a fool)

It is a unprovable fact that Leger's death caused a huge hype machine to bloom and increased ticket sales for the Dark Knight.

The man who is the God of Animated just drew a head making this the most official 3rd party product EVER!!! This item went from another 3rd party venture to becoming and official continuation of TFA. It may not be from the official toy maker but it will incorperate element from the official designer.

The death and the design will have the same effect on sales...total dramatic increase.

Damn straight there is interest now and all we have is a black box and a head that is officially animated but not known if it will be used (once again, G1U will be total idiots for not using it)

I don't have the Stunticons but if they use the DJW head I will but this 100% and as picky as I am on prices, price won't even stop me. But the opposite is true as well, if they do not use the head I refuse to buy it because there now exists an official TFA Menasor head.

Why the Batman defense? :lol  Referring to it like a classic court case is so...odd.
