Fans project

Is Fans Project making any money off of their City Commander or did they off of Cliff Jumper?

Just curious if so how do they get the rights by hasbro and Takara?

Anyone know?

They must be. They made the product, they have to be getting something.

Hasbro/Takara has been surprisingly cool about allowing small companies to do limited runs of TF products. At the price point these things go for I'm pretty sure they're making decent money.

If they weren't making some kind of profit, i don't think we would've gotten the City Commander set in the first place.

They are probably making a bit of money but probably not enough for any sort of living. Most custom and garage kit makers though make them to build a portfolio for the toy companies like Takara and hope that they get hired on. As far as getting rights, I don't think, in the case of fansproject that they got the rights. Some do though, like the makers of the Powerglide. They got the rights from Takara to produce a certain number and sell them at Wonderfest. So did the guy who made the WST Ultra Magnus armor who again was allowed to make and sell a limited amount of his WST stuff at Wonderfest.

I wonder if fans project doesn't need rights due to their products being originally designed accessories, and not recreations of copyrighted products?

that's probably true, but it's probably a thin line. If Takara wanted to go after them Takara could build a case.
