In the interest of getting a good Menasor toy (I can't afford Intimidator), I've been upgrading my CW Menasor, which is otherwise a pretty sad attempt on Hasbro's part, to something a little more substantial. So far I've applied the following Nonnef's Hip Ratchets Nonnef's Shoulder Locks Perfect Effect's PC-02 Hands and Feet upgrade Perfect Effect's PC-04 Head and Torso upgrade RenderForm's RW-021 "The Eliminator" Cyclone Rifle for Motormaster (has yet to arrive) Reprolabel sets for Motormaster, Dead End and Brake-Neck/Wildrider (the only ones I feel really need them) Given I don't have the best grasp of the third-party toy market and how to search it, are there any other applicable upgrades to Menasor and/or the Stunticons that might be worth pursuing?
Can I ask why? If it's the pelvic-leg articulation and too-heavy sword sure, but I feel the upgrades have helped CW Menasor a great deal
Don't get me wrong, I'm happier, but it's just all.. a mess. From the start, MM was just terribly planned and thought out. I have everything you listed but the rifle and Reprolabels and I still feel like he's just... so fiddly. In combined mode it's like he's wearing a huge diaper and backbrace, which, while looks awesome in combined mode, in any other mode it's just terrible and I'm not a huge fan of partsforming. As is though, in combined form on my shelf, he's okay. I'm not regretting my 3P purchases to improve him, but MM himself leaves a lot to be desired.
Yeah, won't and can't argue any of that. The upgrades are to Menasor's aid but Motormaster's detriment, and Motormaster is just so bad to begin with. Still wish he had a trailer too. Still, none of that justifies pursuing Lone Wolf, the final product of which was a king-sized letdown. Still, with the aid of some strategically applied krazy glue I've learned to make Motormaster (and Blackjack) at least a tiny bit better
Are you using Blackjack as a chest filler for Menasor? The Blackjack upgrade on Shapeways helps in keeping him pegged in place.
No, some gently-applied krazy-glue around the rim of Blackjack's back-peghole makes it so he just pops right onto Menasor's chest securely and easily the way he's meant to.
I actually wasn't a fan of how much the Perfect Effect torso upgrade harmed his articulation and became such a huge backpack in bot mode, so I built my own "upgrade" out of Bionicle parts and I'm way happier with it.
I'm happy-ish with just the perfect effect torso upgrades. I've twisted the legs so the wheels are facing forward to make the A stand not so wide but there's no leg articulation at all now. The head is still not great, but I didn't see any better option yet (renderform heads are not that great either)
I wasn't happy with Motormaster torso mode so I took the gamble and got Lone Wolf because his torso mode looks so much better than MM to me and I'm so glad I did. I guess I got lucky because mine doesn't have any issues other than it came with menasor's face missing which Bold Forms had delivered to me in a few days.
It seems I'm one of the few that are very satisfied after adding the PE and Noneff kits. It's true that Menasor doesn't stand well on his own or with the thigh kit but he's sturdy enough that he can stand on my book shelf without me having to worry about him tipping over even as I walk by. I think he look menacing, the sword upgrade is great, and the increased height is also a bonus. I just wish someone would make him a gun.
