Sadly I have to bow out of the 3rd party scene entirely.

my wife lost her job so money is super tight now.

I'm having to compensate for all the bills at this point. So I sadly have to part ways with my entire 3p collection.

that being said, there's no way I can afford to continue buying any 3p stuff. it's just far too expensive to keep up with.

I'll miss it, I had some truly fantastic pieces. But survival comes first.

and unlike with retail toys this isn't one of those hobbies you can just jump in and out of at will. not somebody on my limited budget. :lol

at least I'll have photos, and the memories tied to being able to own such amazing toys. Perhaps it's for the best in the end.

    1000's saved?

realistically though, I am petty bummed out about it. :C

Sorry to hear that. I completely understand. Going through some things now too. Can't feel bad about doing the right thing. Better days will come.

Sorry to hear, hope she gets back in the swing soon.

To be honest, I'm buying less and less 3rd party every year. It's funny but with so many takes on characters, very few actually hit all the marks and then add the price on top?

I honestly don't think there are any 3rd party figures that I would be sad to part with. Maybe FP Smart Robin or Code because of their magnificent engineering ideas.

I sold Green Giant because while very nice, just didn't scratch that G1 itch. Now even though Hasbro Devy is technically not as sophisticated it does EXACTLY what I was missing from all the other 3rd party Devy's.

Sorry for your hardship, but I think you might find it freeing and allow a new chapter in your collecting life.

Let us know what your selling. Even if money is tight keep 3 or 4 of your favorite pieces.

Damn man I know how you feel I had to part with a 1300 bucks worth of my collection a few months back. I can understand being slightly pissed and sad at once.
Third party is not going anywhere you'll get back into it when things get better for you and in the future.

Sorry to hear about your situation, but you've done the right thing and my suggestion is to build enough emergency funds for the future.

The current high prices will not last more than one or two more years. My prediction still stands: once the current stock market crashes, within 2 or 3 years, America will see 60% (not a typo) unemployment. Unless people have evolved by then to eat plastic, there's not going to be much value anyone'll get in the future from any collection.

Went through this myself but in doing so I learned how to budget the collection. One figure a month, no exceptions. Up to 100 dollars. 25 bucks a week isn't that much to spend on toys I think. Also if a figure happens to cost over 100 then it comes out of next months you budget.

I also learned that I don't have to buy everything since it's the latest and even greatest. Don't bother trying to get all the G1, chug, or masterpieces. Choose the small teams of guys and go from there. I have all the MP's I want and will ever want. Doing all the little internal teams has helped also. Wreckers, dinobots, DJD, etc. and if I sell something from another part of the collection then I fold it back in to the collection.

Sorry to hear about your situation. My wife was out of work for several years and it pretty much stopped me from buying dolls and action figures, which was my main, much more expensive, hobby at the time. While I never went back to that collection, that's the time I started getting Transformers. In time, things will get back to normal and you might even come out in a better place than before.

Sorry to hear about the news and I hope things get better for you and your wife.

Let us know what you're selling and I'm sure there are plenty of people here who will help out with the sale.

Maybe he just wants to talk about it. Maybe "we" would understand his situation more than family and friends. Why be embarrassed loosing a job? He didn't imply she lost it due to her own incompetence. Layoffs are increasingly a part of life.

I feel your pain. I was just getting started in this hobby 18 months ago when something similar happened. I sold my meager collection then and just within the last three weeks I've been able to start again. Learn to enjoy the chase. That is what helps me. I save for the figure I want and then start the process of getting one at a good price. For old stuff that can take a while.

It happens to the best of us. As much as we love our figures, one has to question the amount of materialism involved with our innocent little hobby. Good on you for accepting responsibility of the bills, and knowing what's more important in life.

Take care bro. Btw does this mean you're also bowing out of the mainline Hasbro/TT collecting too?

I doubt I would completely blow 3P off unless I was also selling all my official stuff. If I had to sell 95% of everything I'd probably be keeping st least 50/50 3P and official stuff. But I don't have much classics left, its all MP and G1...

she's extremely supportive, not to mention she see's all the stuff I post, it helps her cope better knowing others sympathize and understand through similar hardships.

through all this insanity I notice fans are always there for one another, so the support believe it or not, means a lot to the both of us.

I'm sorry you feel I'm doing something wrong. but hey, it's not like you had to post in the thread. lol

Thanks for the support even if you didn't show any. the fact you posted was enough. :D

She told me to tell you all thanks so much for the warmth and kindness.

I'm also extremely grateful to this fandom. I know sometimes we all have our moments in the threads but it really is cool to see how supportive people are during this countrywide economical struggle we all seem to be going though these days.
