I keep seeing posts by people who only use 3P to fill gaps. Most people it seems. As soon as an official version comes out, some sell their 3P figure.

I buy 3P not to supplement my Classics collection, but as their own display. My Function X figures have their own shelf shared only with Warden. My MT/FP combiners are not anywhere near my CW ones. My FP Dinobots have their own shelf as well. I think of 3P figures more as works of art and engineering than toys. They just don't look right to me mingling with the $10-20 Hasbro figures.

So.. I was just wondering if there's anyone else like me that separates his/her 3P figures from Hasbro releases.

I don't do it intentionally. But I will separate my 3P combiners from my official ones (save Feral Rex and maybe Giant) once the UW line finishes since my main classics display will use the official ones and I don't feel like selling my third party combiners.

I mostly just buy third party figures. I actually kinda use official stuff more as the gap fillers.

I use 3rd as the majority of my chug display. I don't care if it's official but just want to display a correctly scaled collection which sadly has become mostly 3p.

The only two 3rd-party figures I own are integrated with the rest of my collection.

I don't use 3P to fill gaps. If an official version comes out of something I have 3P - and it looks worse to me - hell no will I ever replace it.

If and that's a big *if*, an official figure outdoes a 3P for me, I'll replace it.

    Hell, I'll replace a 3P with a 3P also.

    All depends!

And all of my collection is displayed together. My Chug/IDW guys are with my chug/IDW guys, and my Masterpiece and Masterpiece styled figures are with one another.

All is well with the world :D

Nothing 3rd party will be "replaced" by official. It's either I keep both, or I sell something that I simply don't have fun and need space for other stuff, and that usually turns out to be, you guessed it, the official products, or both.

I have a 3p shelf for the ones I have that aren't the legends-class ones. Those are mixed with official figures wherever they fit.

I use them as the best representation of that character in that line (Classics or MP). It just so happens that the 3P stuff most of the time is vastly superior to the official stuff when they go head-to-head on the same character. The unofficial stuff has fewer restrictions and can make a better product. Plus, they do tend to focus on characters that aren't represented officially, so there isn't a competition and in that case, they do fill gaps.

I just buy toys that look cool. That's pretty much all there is to it.

Yeah me too but I also have them together, not separated as official mp here, 3p mp there. But omg, I just noticed, I subconsciously separate my 3rd party autobot classics from my official hasbro autobot classics. But then my classics depcepticons are mixed official and 3rd party. I think its cause there are so many autobots vs decepticons so I have to separate the autobots.

Also if MP ultra magnus didn't exist, I probably would have gotten kfc citizen stack. If generations metroplex didn't exist, I probably would have gotten maketoys uptopia. So again, not me. I mostly use them to fill gaps.

3P is only for filler for me, and only if I like the figure. I'm not buying a figure just because it's the only or first one, I will like with Sphinx wait for the better version to come...although the wait for Sphinx and Willys is killing me.

I may buy the MT Inferno and Grapple, but for me, my main figures have to be official, unless something unforseen happens and it looks like total ass, which, to me, has not happened yet.

And stuff will be replaced in my collection if an official one comes. But, depending on the character it will be kept (Megatron, Mirage, Hound, Prime), but most will likely go.

And, if an official is announced at the same time as a 3P, or will be released some time after a 3P...I will not touch the 3P one at all, unless, UNLESS, it has something different to offer me, like if TT does a more toon version, and I would still like a toy (aesthetic) version...then and only then will I buy both.

When I started collecting, it was all about "what looked cool". Since then, I've realized my collecting is primarily nostalgia driven, so I've really narrowed. Tons of "classics" styled or 3P figures look cool, but I've been progressively refining the collection to mainly be MP renditions of the TF that stick with me from my childhood. Therefore, 3P and official are mixed and I have no problem replacing official w/ 3P or vice versa if the new mold better matches my ideal version of the character. I don't have space to have things that are "cool" just because. "cool" + significant nostalgia gets you in the door here.

yeah, all my toys hang together now, but thats what my Hastak toys used to say to the third party toys - you know youre just filler.... hasatak might be 10% of the collection now, and probably 5% of the total value. they command nothing, except MP10. he's just unbeatable except for price.
