the lack of red plastic, and chrome, are definite improvements. but as they most likely won't be changing the purple where green should be, to green.
this is still not hitting the g1 mp feeling for me. i am not shelling out $600 on something that is kinda mp. maybe they will do a full g1 release later, and i'll get that. bonecrusher only really had purple hands, this has too much purple for my tastes.

I do have to say that with Bonecrusher, his G1 cartoon looked like a giant green pajama suit. Now, if that's what people truly want, then there's nothing to say about it. Me, I like that they've broken him up in the colors department. The toy had silver/black arms, so the purple is a bit different. But, the way the color is broken up works well with me.

I really want this set to be good. But I'm still up on my fence waiting. Wondering how it'll all look with the three clear chest plates totally removed, whether it will hold together well in combined mode or be jiggly like the Dinobots. Later releases, as you mentioned. We'll just have to see.

Seems like people are more protective of their constructicons being G1 accurate than a lot of other popular characters. I understand that for this much money people want exactly what they want, but it still surprises me how people really do seem to want the constructicons in particular to be as close to 100% G1-accurate as possible, even to the extent of wanting to keep the same odd design choices (like Mixmaster's "hat" or Bonecrusher's shovel chest) and color imbalances as the original had.

I personally would prefer it if companies pushed the designs forward, which is why I love my Maketoys Green Giant :)

Thing is, this has been done a bunch already. Especially with the Constructicons. Maketoys, TFC and even Hasbro (all the up to but not including their new hollow abomination) have done these guys wrong/new.

NOW'S MY TIME, LORD!!! GIVE UNTO ME A MASSIVE AND ACCURATE MONSTER OF GREEN AND PURPLE!!!!

I was about to post a similar reply, and you beat me to it.
We've had plenty of "re-imaginings" and "interpretations" of the Constructicons, and I've bought none of them. I've been waiting and hoping for a rendition that's closer to the source material so I can finally add the Constructicons to my Masterpiece collection. Whilst not perfect, these guys are the closest we've got, so I've plumped for them.
I'm just hoping against hope that they keep the G1-esque tread colours as per these recent test shots. When I look at the threads about the Masterpiece cars (for instance) I don't see folks clamouring for new interpretations and stylised designs. So I struggle to see the argument for radical change here, especially as Herc, Giant and Gravity all deviate much further from the original aesthetic of the G1 Constructicons, certainly far enough to not find a place in my MP collection.

Odd? Those elements are money. I want Mixmaster's hat (I like how with Gravity Builder's Mixer, you can have both options), and Bonecrusher's shovel chest is his big memorable feature - aside from being a tread leg brother.

The problem is, each individual has a different idea of what radical means. for some, extra real-world details on the alt modes is too much reimagined, not enough strict G1. With the real-world alt modes of some of the MP cars, there is excess detail that didn't exist in the under-detailed Sunbow cartoon. Is this Devy pretty damn G1? I'd say so, in the same realm as the MP carbots. More than GB, certainly. I get the beef with colors, I do, especially random red translucent pieces and over the top chrome. If tread color is a deal breaker, I am afraid you're bound to be disappointed, because I do not see them going 100% toon on that. Green on green on green... Hold out for the TT version is all I can suggest. Can we at least agree that the constructicons looked ridiculous in single shade green jumpsuits?

I don't understand why people pay upfront in the preorder phase prior to seeing the product. I really hope you're happy in the end, but we have different ideas of what this should be. I personally hope it ends up being toon-inspired yet realistic, to fit with the aesthetic of the licensed MPs, and so far I am not disappoint!

You misunderstand me, I'm very happy with the current tread colour choices. Purple for Scavenger, Green for Bonecrusher. Unless you think they are going to change from the test shot colours?
As someone else pointed out, TW have given Bonecrusher a fair bit of Purple on his arms, so I don't see the all-green jumpsuit. The G1 toy had chrome and black on the arms. The 'toon had just green all over.
I agree about wanting 'toon inspiration with some added realism, but, as per Takara, taking some cues from the original toys as well isn't a bad thing.
I honestly don't think there will be a TT version, unless you mean the UW set coming out soon, which I have on pre-order too. (Yep, I love me some Constructicons)
I pre-ordered these TW guys out of pure impulsive excitement, thinking with my heart rather than my head. I guess I can see an end goal to my MP collection.

Also, I see things like working treads as pushing the designs forward. Clever innovative stuff like this, whilst not completely departing from the source material, really impresses me without losing the nostalgia hit that I want from my Masterpiece figures.

I think this set looks great. Except for the red bits, the design and overall colour seems g1 enough for me. I never like a 100% toon accurate figure. An mp should incorporate all elements to have the best design.

I think most people are annoyed at the red bits not because of accuracy but because it just looks bad. Certainly that's why I don't like them. Red parts, save for maybe tiny accents and eyes have no place being on a team of guys who's iconic palette is very specifically green, purple, black and grey for a reason.

That's kind of a contradiction, isn't it? If they had red windows and chests in the cartoon, the red would then become part of their iconic palette. And then people would complain if these figures didn't have those reds.

Scourge has long pink fingernails in the source material. I think that it looks really bad, but it's there on xtb andras to honor the character.

The red looks bad with on a mainly green and purple figure. Pink fingernails on a bluish purple figure at least goes together. The fingernails are such a small detail that I doubt any color would be all that bad. I could deal with red windows on the constructicons, but not a large random area of red.

Personally I don't care about the source material at all and I think the red looks bad. However, certainly there are those that think it's bad because it's not the source material either.

And those that are on the middle ground for both as well.

Personally, I viewed the red as bad for both reasons: Inaccurate to source and looked bad anyway.

Aren't the test shot treads already toon accurate?

I respectfully disagree on the jumpsuit comment. Rather, the all green jumpsuit is ridiculous, but no more so than a group of bright green and purple construction vehicles in the first place. I really wish Toyworld would offer an all green Bonecrusher. I don't see how having purple arms and stomach is accurate to any representation of the character or makes the figure look more attractive.

even in vehicle mode there are weird black plastic color choices. like the support for the little roof. and the two patches of black on the side...

but as i said i'm opting out on this. i don't think they will fit my needs. i'm not asking them to change the things i want changed, because i feel i'm in a low percentile and don't want things changed just for me. a lot of people like the real world effect that the color choices bring out. for me, i want the real world detail, with the colors of the g1 cartoon. that's what mp means to me. changing the colors, doesn't update it in my eyes, it ruins it. but that's just my perspective on it, to each his/her own.

I'm trying to find a reason to opt in to what looks like a well designed and engineered set. The colors as is kill it for me. Others clearly have a different view.

In which case you already have a Devastator that satisfies you. Now others who'd like an MP scaled one, which needs to be strict to the source to blend in, can hope to get what they want.

This is true. To me, since TFs are sort of meant to change and evolve, I want the designs to change as well. Some of the original G1 designs appeal to me, but many do not, even though I grew up with them, since a lot of the design choices that were made were made because of severe limitations in animation and toy engineering that I would rather have stayed in the 80s. It's OK to want MP-style representations but that's just not my thing.

I preorder things that I'm pretty certain that I will want, but the ONLY reason I feel safe doing so is because I generally only order from BBTS and they have a good cancelation policy. Plus I follow as much TF news as I can so I generally know when a new image of a toy I want comes out. Each time I weigh my desire for it and "decide" again, as many people in this thread are doing. I think it's cool that we can decide with our wallets before a product even comes out! HasTak doesn't bend to our will in the least. The only thing I worry about is that it will push everything 3P to be MP-styled, which leads to several companies essentially putting out the same product but slightly different, but there are still companies like Maketoys and Master Made that are doing awesome things that are unique and different and modern enough that they usually align with my personal vision for what the characters can be.

That is true. I'm not saying I think you guys are bad, I just don't understand and was hoping for an explanation as to why people prefer the designs to stay the same instead of changing (as has become standard in TFs over its 30 year history).
