Think there's any demand for an MP Megatron body upgrade kit that could beef up his legs, or change his face plate and maybe make some other alterations and give him a more cartoon accurate look?

These 3rd party companies seem to crank out all kinds of neat add ons for TFs. If there are fans that love their Takara MP Megatron, but would like some minor tweaks, how would we create enough buzz to get it made?

XTB Apollyon should do the trick ^o^

No really.. adding two (one left front waist one right front waist). good cut glossy black plastic square-like sheets (maybe from an old DVD case) will give MP Megs a waist/pants. Also shortening the legs (partially extended) helps too... less lanky Megs; but only helps if you don't give him a waist

Extending the gun grips outwards of the legs help too.

Make sure the waist sides are properly transformed and aligned; they actually do peg attach to the body and not just hang there on the ball joint. Almost ever photo I see of Megs mp-5 is mis transformered on the waist sides.

Don't forget to properly tab the feet. The tab on the feet give Megs support and not to just rely on the friction of the foot ball joint

I also find getting a smaller scope / arm canon for robot mode makes it look better for different poses. The stock scope is so huge... not that is a bad thing ^^/

Well, there is a completely new 3P MP Megatron out there. With the way the MP line is going, the old MP Megatron is too far out of scale with the rest, so the demand may not be that high. Also, the way the old MP Megatron was designed, the upgrade kit would be almost impossible to integrate into his alt mode.

Yes there is an awesome XTB Apollyon out there, but that doesn't mean owners of MP Megatron would not want to refresh their old version with some cool add-ons.

Your suggestions are great, might have to keep my eye out for some suitable pieces to attach and see what happens.

MP-05 has been out for years and that hasn't been done yet. I kinda doubt anyone would take that on now that Apollyon is out.

3P companies are generally too busy trying to outdo each other to focus on an upgrade kit for an eight year old toy that is elaborate enough to resolve the significant issues that it has.

    Never mind the size.

On top of that, plenty of retailers are already knee deep in indistinct superfluous upgrade kids.

This has bad investment written all over it.

Well maybe some people wouldn't want to drop $150 on a third party Megs, but would drop $30 on reviving their old MP and making him look awesome.

An upgrade would probably be more like $50-60+. Just look at the prices of the upgrade sets for the combiner wars Megatron.

The problem is if someone did come out with something that made it look better, the stability would likely still leave much to be desired and you'd have parts forming of the added parts. Personally, I could see selling MP Megs for what you can(the going rate now is approx. $100 or less depending on cond) and getting Apollyon. Just my opinion. If that isn't a desired option, perhaps crafting the parts as mentioned above is the answer. It could be a fun rewarding project!

Budgetary constraints and Masterpiece collecting aren't very compatible with each other.

Can't see a $30 upgrade going anywhere near addressing all of MP5s issues. But if you or anyone else manages to design and market such an upgrde for said price, i'm in

With all the gripes of about MP-05 (and the fact that there are so many still hanging around in online stores, and the new 'gold' version) I'm sure an add-on kit could sell, if the price was reasonable.

There's probably more people out there who still enjoy their MP-05, and would get a fun visually appealing add-on kit than you think, and the sales from the angry griping ones alone could probably support its creation. Anyway, thanks for your input, I think I might take your post as my first January custom project!

You'll be the first person I message.

I wish the x2 upgrade set for cw megatron came with some hands. Kind of stupid to not do hands for that set. I would have bought it already. I cant pay that $50 without hands too, damn!

What happened to that downsized MP5 KO from a year or so back? Was it cancelled?

I didn't see ANYTHING about a downsized KO MP-05, and after seeing Apollyon and the Despotron teasers, it probably got scrapped.

I'm one of those owners that would love to see MP megs get what he really deserves. I still have mine out on display with all the other mps, and even though he looks totally out of place from his height/dated look, I dig what he really stands for.......the first G1 Megatron (WITH GUN MODE) figure since the 80s figure! And at the time it was a huge mark in history, for me at least. And was pure AWESOMENESS!!

I can forgive him easily for not being perfect because he was part of the beginning of the MP line where Takara didn't really know where it was going with the line, compared to what the standard idea is now. Him, 1st Op, n 1st seekers were going for a more "real life" aesthetic, rather than "cartoon accurate with heroic proportions" that it is now. Kinda weird that, not a lot of people stick up for megs.

Even though a 3p add on would be such an awesome idea, I agree that he was done so long ago that no one really wants to touch him from a "business" perspective and would rather just start over with their own.

Totally on a different note.....was there anything that came out of the CW Devy instructions where they snuck in some new Megs figure blueprint?

Thanks for this information- but what an usual choice- considering the age of the mold and the fact that it recently received that odd gold reissue.

Since the release of Apollyon (and the upcoming Despotron) the fan base here seems to express nothing but contempt for this old, oversized, outdated mold. I'm surprised a 3rd party would even touch it- maybe they just don't visit here for market research (reading the tiresome and often ridiculous complaints) before making their selections- but after looking at the date of the postings- I guess they didn't know then.

Yeah I'm still a fan of this mold too, just because of his G1 toy look. Mine is display by my MP-01- but as far as picking up mini KO cousin here, there's no interest for me. I'll keep my dollars for Despotron or some other 3rd party update.

$30 goes a long way as far as little pieces of plastic are concerned- it could be done.

Best thing I did was sell my MP5 and that was way before Xtransbots even hinted at doing Megs. It was cool in gun mode but that's about it. Mine got really bad cosmic rust and he sat misb for a year or so before I even opened him up.
