Neato. I'm primarily a masterpiece collector, however I'm glad to see Maketoys isn't leaving their classics fans in the dust. Doesn't really scream "Hot Spot" to me, but it still looks friggin' awesome and would definitely fit in with their Technobots. But like, what the heck MakeToys? How many projects are they even planning on releasing? There's only so many paydays in a year for their fans  

 

Oh man, he looks better than I hoped from the drawings.

 

I prefer the look of the CW toy this time around.

 

WTF is with these companies doing identical figures.


Looks decent, alt mode has that translucent plastic covering the entire front, not sure what others think of that, and the arms are not hidden well. The bot mode looks great, but doesn't really evoke Hot spot to me.

 

Absolutely! Hope they get those figures released in time. I mean their Quantron took forever from prototype to the final release, and it was just one combiner. Their Scorponok is still not released, maybe pushed back because of the other projects. Having now so many other projects besides the combiner they are doing....I don't know if they can manage to pull out so many figures without tons of delays.
I'm also a MP collector, but bought Giant and Quantron, because I liked the look of them and I had that G1 feeling somehow. You could recognize most of the figures when comparing them to their G1 counterparts.
But Defensor looks somekind different. Don't really feel it.
Hot Spot doesn't look very Hot Spotish to me, while Scattershot looked very like the original figure.
I hope Defensor will look finished closer to the original, because that's how I will display them.

 

I love the design! But MT's combiners are so tiny...

 

Sometimes when I see the 3rd Party stuff it makes me not wanna buy Hasbro anymore and just double up on a figure, like this guy.

MakeToys was the first 3P to announce Defensor and preview Hot Spot. TFC was just quicker on the release.

That's how clear windshields are usually done, unless there's a substantial enough build to allow for an insert instead. The cab's gonna get a lot of paint to cover the panelling.

 

I hope MT keeps it going. Everyone doesn't collect MPs.

 

MT/FP does have the best paint around, I'm fairly confident of their ability to paint it well and match the surrounding molded-in-color parts. But yeah, that piece SHOULD be big enough to allow a separate part---I can't imagine they're that much smaller than say, MP Prime's chest-windows.

Hmmn---if they're showing him now, perhaps he'll be third, and they'll release Guardia "bottom to top" like MMC and Feral Rex? They've shown almost nothing of the arms guys *officially*, though we have seen them at expos etc. ::edit: He's MTRM-04C. C as in third!   (naysayers would point out that had they done the arms first, you wouldn't really need to buy the legs once you got the torso...)

NotSpot's head isn't very Optimus-y. That's both good and bad----good, in that he's always looked like a nigh-identical clone and this gives him an actual unique identity, bad in that he simply doesn't look very HotSpot-y without Optimus' head!

Also---no spot for an insignia strikes again! Chest is obviously out, can't use forearms either since they're all hinges, and while his shoulders WOULD be a good spot--- obivous upside down logos on the sides of the cab would look really stupid in truck mode. ::edit:: Sides of forearm? Would also look good/rightsideup in truck mode. Better than nothing, and would be large.

The alt-mode is nothing we haven't already seen and admittedly a tad plain due it being nothing new. But that bot mode ... that's friggin A W E S O M E!!

I don't think I've ever seen that on a figure where they've used clear plastic and disguised parts that are not supposed to be clear with paint.

 

Looks great, though, I am going to miss the big red chest plate.

 

Looks more traditional from a different angle. Still different, but more like Hot Spot.

 

You can see that they clearly just extended the gdo hot spot mold in his vehilce mode heavily redoing it. Not that it doesnt look good but the cab head and paneling are clearly gdo hotspot
