I don't completely understand their reasoning. Why disallow information? It is such an exhaustive and mostly complete tome of knowledge. Being against third party and not wanting to talk about it doesn't make it disappear.

It would be like FOX News not reporting when a democrat did something positive or MSNBC likewise for a republican. (Lol)

By all means label them as unofficial and use the term knock off if it makes you feel better, but in a list of toys made of an individual character, third party should be there.

Third party toys have nothing to do with Transformers, they're stuff for fans by fans and it's off-topic and meaningless to cover something unofficial.

Haha, I guess you can call the toys really elaborate fan fiction.

Exactly. It's not that they have a particular anti-Third Party moral stance, just that there really is no place for it there. The TFWiki is exclusively for official Transformers fiction and merchandise. Unofficial Transformers-inspired figures have no more place there than someone's fanfiction.

As for Gobots, it's a bit more complicated. Transformers and Gobots have a fairly connected history, not to mention a couple of crossovers and acknowledgement that, in some universes, the franchises are even connected. So it's not quite the same.

Gobots does have something to do with the Transformers franchise, though, and is officially linked to it, just like how Marvel characters are. The Gobots have actually crossed over with Transformers.

There's no official link between TFs and 3rd parties. TFWiki is a resource for Transformers and all officially related things. It's the exact same reason bootlegs and knockoffs aren't included. They're not actually Transformers.

And it's hardly detrimental. Just becasue you think it is doesn't make it so.

You could if there was any fiction to go with them, but there very rarely is aside from halfhearted pack-in micro comics.

Ah. But they do mention things like four star knock offs and happywell roadbots. Hell, even having a picture of toyworld's Orion and saying, don't buy this.....this is not Optimus Prime would make more sense.

Really? Now you´re making a case against TF Wiki for not having 3rd party references? It´s TFwiki, not 3rdpartyWiki.

    ...I hate this fandom.

Well...I can personally see this one both ways.

To say they have "nothing" to do with Transformers is a bit silly...but conversely, it's also not helpful or relevant to include fanfiction or fan drawings of TFs into a Wiki about the toy line and you could argue that 3P figures are the equivelant... I get why they don't.

    However, this...may be relevant. ???

    Same.

Except it's not, because they don't. Not as far as TFWiki's intent goes.

If they do, it's only because someone officially tied to Transformers produced them, like James Roberts' Eugenesis fan fiction gets a call-out as an example, or an official artist's fan art that would influence a design they or someone else did in the future. It's not just willy-nilly whatever they want to add there.

No, you actually couldn't. Fan art is derivitive work, and unless it's outright copied from official art, it's always unique and drawn one at a time. A drawing/painting is not remotely comparable to a mass-released figure of infringing design, just like a drawing of a dollar bill isn't a counterfeit.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. The article you linked to specifically states that Hasbro owns the rights to the Go-bots characters and that they are now a splinter part of the Transformers multiverse. That's literally as far from 3rd party as it gets.

I don't think keeping TFWiki official is detrimental at all. For every decent/excellent 3rd party figure there's probably a dozen or so shit pieces that don't deserve screen time. Besides HasTak has enough terrible toys to document. :D  I'd have no problem with a separate site for 3rd party and a link from that characters official toy page but that's it. Plus you could probably kiss any present or future official or semi-official involvement from HasTak goodbye.

I love my Igear Elegy but in my heart I know he's not a Transformer. Nor will Apollyon or Spinout be Transformers. They do not belong on TFWiki.

Do you contradict everyone in your life or is it just here? I'm not even on here that much but I am noticing a pattern.

Perhaps I don't spend enough time on TF Wiki...so could you clarify? Are you saying that something James Roberts writes about TFs that Isn't funded by Hasbro and isn't directly related to his official project, it would be worthy of mention of TF Wiki? That feels pretty darned arbitrary.

If Peter Cullen puts on his Prime voice and tells the crowd that the Matrix of Leadership was actually made of compressed Cheeto powder, and was lost in a rainstorm, would they count that as worthy of mentioning on TF Wiki too?

Perhaps we shouldn't care what TF Wiki arbitrarily decides.

Yeah, if folks want to document unofficial Transformers, they can go play with Ignash over at WikiAlpha.

Plus, I mean, where the hell would you draw the line? What sets this and this apart from the more expensive flavour of fake Transformer? What if a customiser produces multiples of a specific kitbash? And so on.

Roberts has re-used names and concepts and ideas from Eugenesis in his official work, so obviously it's worth mentioning when that happens. It's not like the book has its own article or anything. Conversely, it's not exactly common for third-party toys to influence official stuff in any way. And when it does, like the time a guest cover artist drew iGear Huffer and Gears, it is mentioned.

Except that flies in complete ignorance of the fact that website is about everything associated with the Transformers franchise history in any official stance.

Third Party figures are not officially condoned by Hasbro, so by extension the wiki does not need to cover them. Furthermore, if the wiki did cover them, they inevitably would outright state who those figures are supposed to be, which makes it harder for Hasbro to keep the proverbial blind eye toward the 3rd Party market, because more acknowledgement from something as well known as the TFwiki would lead to more people infringing upon their copyrights, citing the lack of action on the existing 3P products as precedent already established.

Outside of his specific article on his wiki? No. The only unofficial TF thing the wiki recognizes that he's done is Eugenesis being a phonebook-thick piece of fiction - which even then it doesn't tell you what Eugenesis is even about, just that it exists.

Also as a cameo from Maximum Dinobots #3 (left: appearance in comic, right: the actual book itself)

Depends on the context. IIRC he did do these which the wiki does not mention at all:

You sure? Because Derrick J. Wyatt did.

I'm not really sure what you're arguing here. Eugenesis doesn't have a page on TFWiki because it is fanfiction, regardless of it being penned by a current official writer. However, there are quite a few references to it in official fiction, which are worth mentioning just as trivial tidbits.

I hear this. My guesses are as follows:

1.) You have to draw the line somewhere. Official materials and products are a very good stopping point.

2.) Principle. Plenty of folks have a moral objection to 3P stuff and see it as theft. (I'm not one of those folks but I see their point).

Really? I actually wonder the other way around why 3rd party is so prominently here on the boards. It would be a downfall if TFWiki started to feature 3rd party Transformers.

*shrug* I'm more annoyed by the dumb jokes and silly humor that TFWiki tries to handjam into their entries are just plain unfunny. Stick to the facts because comedy is not your forte, TFWiki.
