Would you consider Feral Rex a masterpiece style or a Chug style bot?

    You are correct.
No. Mp09 and mp22 stick out like sore thumbs, IMHO too. A lot of people feel that way. More with mp09 than mp22, coz people don't want to admit they just spent $$$ on a bland jokermobile. If/when a rodimus 2.0 is made, in the current mp style, it will look nothing like mp09... Unless the designer of mp22 does it.

Like MMC Predaking or TFC Predaking wasn't bad enough.

Why do they have to fit in with a group or a line? These types of discussions eventually all devolve into someone saying something pretty hard to one extreme, another person making fun of them for it, and others taking sides, at which point somebody brings up Kronos for only God knows what reason, and the Mods close down the thread because any civility to peers is long gone.

There's not that many molds. And they're of two of the absolute most-famous characters. Having UM and Rodimus so visually "off" from the rest, really stands out when they're top-tier characters that a large percentage of the fandom is interested in having. It wouldn't be nearly so big a deal if like an MP Sunstreaker or MP Perceptor were "off".

Ditto. If people want to put them in their MP collection, cool for them, not my business. For me he is 100% styled to fit more with classics figures.

Right, so because two toys don't quite match up, we're just going to ignore the many others that fit with this idea? I guess there's just no way to recognise an MP.

    Edit:

I mean this is the vehicle mode in animation. Clearly there have been absolutely no details added to this when translated to MP, certainly none found on the toy.

I'd say more details that were on the G1 toy were removed from the MP to match the animation, than toy details are found on the MP that aren't in the animation.

He is classics style but probably the closest we will ever get to MP Predaking. I have yet to see any combiner that would be MP in all 3 forms but I doubt we will see one anytime soon.

So, the question then becomes which version of each combiner is the closest. Rex is the best Predaking. I do display him and several other combiners with my MP's and I have found that my MP's don't mind it at all. Given some of the comments I've seen from the cartoon fanatics, I was expecting an all out mutiny from the MP's but nothing so far.....

It's very interesting you say this and while I can agree to a certain extent I gotta disagree as well. I mean say what you may, but the majority of the autobot cars are based on real life cars, so it goes without saying they would have to be more detailed as well to look closer to their real life counterparts, whereas MP-09 and 22 aren't based on any real life vehicles and therefore don't have to be as detailed to conform to anything really.

I predict when and if we see more season 3 characters, they'll look more 'simplified' like those 2 as it's more of the season three aesthetic and them not having to conform to any real life vehicles more than anything.

    ;) :lol

And yet, toy details are still there.

I'm curious, what would Masterpiece Predaking actually look like?

    - Would he be made up of individual Predacons?

If yes, then how big would they need to be? MP-10 sized or slightly smaller? How big would Razorclaw have to be if the others were MP-10 height or near-to? Would he need to be FT Dino size or larger?

    - Would he/they contain die-cast?

Of course this has not been included in all MP offerings thus far, but still. I'd also like to see how long he would remain standing before drooping/toppling under his own weight if this was the case.

    - What toy details would need to be present?

I often see this appearing as one of the criteria for joining the Masterpiece club. I've sold my original Predacons, but from memory (and a Google image search), they tended to stand out as a group (while also blending in to one another) because of their colour schemes rather than any specific details.

    - Would his level of cartoon accuracy come close to the actual source material?

I wonder if they'll refer to Call of the Primitives where he appears with stubs for arms, and a giant yellow erection.

Yes, I'm being flippant but amidst all of that I am genuinely curious.

size will depend what mode you want him to be "mp scaled" in. combiners were all mass shifters. mp scaled combined mode means oversized in individual bot mode. mp scaled in individual bot mode is an undersized combined mode. as far as the design..most people love toy predaking over animation predaking. mp usually take animation as main and toy as supplement but its all about fitting fan's mental image. i'd argue even an mp predaking should be more toy than toon based but with nice animation style proportions in combined mode.

You lost me here, rodimus is pretty smooth overall , but magnus has quite a bit of surface detail particularly in altmode, actually I think he has more surface detail than any of the others that have been released with the exceptionof maybe the seekers.

Maybe I missed your point but I think magnus fits in just fine, rodimus doesn't as well but isn't he considered a in between figure since mp10 was considered the reboot if MP. Another strike against him is a lack or real world altmode.

Kind of off point sorry guys, just curious what dave ment

IMO mass shifting combiners to become the size of citybots is just stupid. I'm tired of seeing that shit. Isn't it cool enough to have 5 bots combine to become bigger than a powerhouse like Ultra Magnus or a dinobot. Nooooooo, we need them to become 10X the size they should be. Not interested. Warbotron, Feral Rex have got the perfect size to them IMO.

It'd look like UT's Warlord, but bigger

Cause seriously, I can, without a doubt say that Feral Rex is not Masterpiece style because UT's Warlord -is- Masterpiece style, just not Masterpiece scale
