Would you consider Feral Rex a masterpiece style or a Chug style bot?

An e-tailer here in New Zealand is still selling him:

MMC Reformatted R-05 Fortis the Ground Assaulter Robot Figure

It's $165.00NZ which could end up being cheaper for you after currency conversion (depending where you are) - not sure how much shipping will add to that.

I pretty much agree with that. If there was an official MP of Predaking to come, that was like 100% toon-accurate---I'd likely consider it inferior to my Rex, and not worthy of the "masterpiece Predaking" spot in my collection.

the infatuation with toon accurateness is something i just don't get. some of the toon stuff looked pretty bad...

    Topic needs a poll.

    Chug looks but MP quality.

Another problem is combined mode size. Sure the limbs are about the right size, but all together? Next to MPs the combined mode is less than impressive.

True, cartoon accuracy on the combiners would be practically impossible. In combined mode the legs usually just turned into blocks.

its "Reformatted"...its own thing...but fits in great with a mixed CHUG display (since the scale and style is all over the place in CHUG). you could shoehorn it in wiht MP if you want but IMO both the scale and aesthetic are a departure from the "MP template" (which in my mind is about scale and a mix of toon and toy aesthetic to achieve maximum evocation of the "G1" in the fan's heart's mind).
i'm considering the reformatted line as its own thing though and look for other figures that can mix with them rather than trying to mix them with classics (easy) or to shoehorn them wth MP.

I do have to commend companies like MMC who do their own thing and do it so cohesively. one look at the fembots and you can tell they belong next to the feralcons or hexatron. FP and MT arguable do too but definitely relied on a relatively seamless integration with CHUG.

This. Until a Feral ReXL comes along, Feral Rex stands with the MPs, even if only temporary.

Classics. To me he doesn't fit in with MP's.

    These guys get it!

    This guy, especially, gets it!

As far as I'm concerned there are two definitions of masterpiece on this forum, the first one, the one I'm remotely concerned with is what Takara is doing with their masterpiece line, aesthetics and scale wise. The one that only Fans Toys and to a lesser extent Badcube have been able to mimic successfully.

And then....there is the other one, oh yes, the; "I can put anything in my collection and call it whatever I want and just because I call it so, so and so makes it so,so and so!" Which is absolutely fucking ridiculous.

You see, I could go around calling myself a millionaire, I could find people, friends or family to call me a millionaire, but if I haven't satisfied the condition of having a million units of whatever my currency denomination is, whether in cash and/or assets...then guess what...I'm not a millionaire, it's that simple. It doesn't matter how many deranged loonies I get to shout ,exuberantly, that I'm a millionaire from the any of the highest structures on the planet, if that that condition hasn't been satisfied then I'm not.

Going by that impeccable logic and by my first definition of masterpiece, ie what Takara is doing with their line, I'd definitely say Feral Rex isn't masterpiece, if anything I'd categorize them into masterpiece scaled classics, the new trend going on these days with the likes of Unique Toys and Warbotron, they deviate and take way too many liberties from the source material to be ever considered masterpiece!

I would say 100% MP, but for the fact that the fingers on the hands aren't articulated.

Still, close enough to the MP combination of size + Toy and Toon accuracy that i'm happy to put him on my MP shelf.

Maybe you should have made this a poll?

To answer... no. Too small, and they are original takes on the Predacons, so definitely CHUG.

Some are. MP Magnus and Rodimus are like 100% toon-based, with almost any details the toy had, eliminated, to make them relatively smooth/bland compared to say MP-10/12/17.
