Was just reading through the Fansproject thread about how one of the member's wives found something he was looking for, so it got me to thinking...Being the mate/significant other/partner of a Transformer collector is one thing, where you spend anywhere from $10-$70 on average for figures, but being the mate of a 3rd Party collector is another, where you spend over $100 for many figures. How does that go over with the "old ball and chain?"

Me?...my wife thinks it's funny to tell our friends how I collect/play with toys and then I have to correct her line of explanation. She even has offered to "interrupt" reviews for comic relief, which I will have no part of...lol. As far as money goes, as long as essentials are taken care of, it's all good.

    What about you guys/gals?

Mine enjoys it, she doesn't care about the costs as she views it as my money, as long as the bills get taken care of and we are both contributing to our investment account she is fine with it.

That I take care of the finances in the household is besides the point.

She enjoys my MMC ones the most because she finds they have the most playability.

You know that in the UK we use the term "mate" like Americans would use the word "pal". Thus the title of this thread had little to do with the content of the first post, at least in my head!

We use the term "partner" as a catch all term for wife, other half, girlfriend, etc.

My wife has bought me Quantron for Xmas this year, the most expensive TF prior to this was the Japanese Unicrin release from a few years back.

At least you're still thinking of "mate" as a noun and not a verb. ;)

Mine doesn't like me spending so much money on "toys", but she finally caved and allowed me to buy a Detolf. I'm just lucky she doesn't realize how much the 3P figures and my Hot Toys 1/6 figures cost. Otherwise I might not be able to "mate" with my "mate" for a while...

Mine views them as quality over quantity, so she is fine with it.

My girlfriend (whom I live with) is completely cool with it as long as I'm buying quality stuff (FP/MT/MMC gets the gf nod of approval, lol). She loves/buys expensive clothes and makeup, so she doesn't judge at all. Never had a problem since we're both responsible about it.

Wow. That's a huge present, you better give her a big present in return, too! I wish mine'd do that, she shoots me down for anything beyond $50.

My wife is really great about my collecting. Basically I save/invest WAY in excess of what I spend on TF's every month, so she's pretty cool about the financial side of things. Now, the shelf space side of things...

...Let's just say there's reasons we both want to move to a house. Hard to do in NYC...

Very similar situation that I'm in. I'll get the occasional eye roll, and "how much did you pay for that?"

She knows it is something that makes me happy and is fine with it so long as things are getting taken care of.

She'll even comment on certain figures like color and how they compare to others since she's watched the cartoon series with me on many occasions.

The only figure I've purchased that she has ever given me a negative reaction to was Kronos, and even then it wasn't really that bad and was actually a backwards compliment to the rest of my collection (which happened to be, that doesn't seem nearly as good as the other ones you have.)

Just recently she suggested moving one of the shelving units downstairs inciting that if I did I'd probably fiddle with them more.

My wife is ok with it since she knew about it when she first met me, and knows that my mp tf got me thru a very dark period in my life recently... Also she knows that once season 1 of g1 is done, my transformers collection is done too...

Keep mine in my mancave/work area...and just the opposite with purchases as I sometimes cringe at the thought of how much she spends for certain things....but they're not collectibles!(thoughts in my mind)

Season 1 of G1 figures? or Season 1 of G1 characters?...the 1st seems to have some finality to it...

my wife knows they are not cheap. thinks they are all priced like the toysrus mp figures in the 70-90 $ range

as long as the releases are spread out she does not raise an eyebrow

my wife was ok with it at first, now she's more like "where are you going to put all these". I just tell her "don't worry, when i die, you'll be rich". shhhh, noone break the bad news to her.

My girlfriend is cool with it. I make more money than she does, and I pay for most of our bills as well as throw her extra money throughout the month to help with her day to day expenses.

She is also cool with it because she collects My Little Ponies and I often will order what she wants at the same time as my latest TF and surprise her with it.

Whenever there's a new package at the house I usually get a text "Is there one for me too???"

I used to be able to justify buying 3P figures due to the fact that they would increase in value... making it a sort of "investment". Sadly, that's not the case anymore.
