A few days ago I got the chance to chat with MMC’s inhouse designer, better know here as Grifith76.

What follows is part one of a long session with Griffith talking about the end of project Feral Rex and of things to come.

He speaks here as himself and not on behalf of MMC. He's agreed to let me post it.

    Interview with MMC's Griffith76 - MMC Hub

Thanks for posting the interview. I've actually met with Griffith in the past, such a humble & down to earth kinda guy.

(Met him when he sold some toys to me..)

    Props for the interview.

Never knew about the MMC fansite, I have a couple of their figures but I wouldn't call myself a fan.

So that's Eric Chan, the designer of A.R.C., Azalea and Knight Morpher Commander, right?

Funny how he says he wanted Feral Rex to look more like the Ox Studio Predaking, which is the one that War Lord is directly based on. Everyone seems to love that design. War Lord even copied that sword perfectly.

I like how Griffith mentions the YF-30 at the end, it's one of my favorite classy robot toys of the past year. :D

Mine too. Love those Frontier Valks.

Nice job Turnman. A lot of points to consider here for how the project turned out, I hope more than just MMC take note.

Thank you so much for sharing the interview, part 1 at least! I'm looking forward to the rest of the interview! It's quite enlightening. It's great to get some insight into his views and thoughts on past work, future work, and other topics.

I really found the following statement to be interesting:

I love hearing that kind of attitude.

I have been out of Macross goodies since the vf-17, but I thought many had problems with the YF-30, eventhough it looks awesome? Anyways, I hope the SD SDF-1 is gonna be awesome as the reviews for it, and I can quietly go back into deep sleep mode ;) .

Griffith is the reason I got into it or considered a combiner to begin with, and it will be the only full combiner I can think about for the next few years anyways, and I absolutely love this thing, eventhough the beast modes are not the best alt modes in the market right now (they are still good for me), the bot and combined mode I just love so much, and love the chunkiness too, and as for the joints and the weight, I was ok with it as I know how to handle it in combined mode. And I don't see myself selling my Feral Rex for the newer and better combiner which they will one day make, and maybe improve on the alt modes too, but I will consider the Torso as a standalone (and maybe another if it is just too amazing), and hope it will have same ports as Feral Rex...

I would never sell my Feralcons. They aren't perfect but they are great toys. As I pose Feral Rex more, I find it easier and easier to know where to balance the weight and how to position the joints to take advantage of the mass of the combined form. When Feral Rex is posed properly, it's solid on its feet. I always do the "table shake test" to test the stability of my toys on display. Feral Rex passes that test, when posed properly, whereas smaller and lighter toys fail no matter how I pose them.

I rather like that ox design myself, I hadn't seen it before the interview. But I'm happy with Rex the way he is. Can't wait to see what else they have planned. Tf con can't get here fast enough. Lol.

Very glad so many of you liked the interview!!

My thanks go to Griffith for his time. He really is a very down to earth kinda guy, very easy to talk with. The interview is split into two mainly because it’s hard to edit out all the derailing into other nerd subjects that occurred while making it :lol

That and that there might be a little surprise in it that needs to be approved by MMC’s bosses first before Griffith gives me the ok.

It was made public just yesterday. The MMC Hub is very young :lol

    Awesome interview, thanks!

agreed, thats a fantastic mindset to have. Its funny, Ive picked up a lot of stuff recently and the feralcons are the only ones I really expect to keep long term. I feel that their mindset is something you can feel just by handling their products. Its really quite special.

Thanks for the interview, Griffith76 and Turnman.

I am a big MMC fan, more because of the build quality and finish of the figures and less because of design. We have more and more evidence that designers are more like hired guns in the industry. An MMC figure is great because it was made by MMC, not because it was designed by a certain designer. And from the interview, it seems Griffith76 has a lot to do with that.

Looking forward to the continuation of the interview.
