Since Marvel Legends has become more and more sporadic during recent times, I've been thinking about getting Marvel Select figures. I do have an idea of what I'm in for, I know that the only figures reaching the level of ML articulation are the upcoming Deadpool and possibly the Iron Man 2 figures.

Articulation is something I love, and so I've avoided the Marvel Select line, until now. I've noticed that the more recent releases actually have full articulation, which somewhat lured me in. What really did it was noticing that the comic Wolverine figures actually have full articulation. Not ML level but acceptable. The sculpts look great too.

Then I saw Sabretooth. WOW. Then I saw how huge Hulk actually is in the line. Another WOW. Then I saw how intricately detailed Moon Knight was. 3rd WOW.

So I'm pretty much used to the fact that as much articulation is added, with MS, emphasis is always on sculpt. I'm aware that these figures will likely never match the combination of articulation with sculpt that ML have, but also aware that the sculpts on MS tend to be better.

So how is the quality on Marvel Select figures? Are they fragile? Loose joints? Tight joints? God forbid, anyone encounter stuck joints or breakages? I figure for the price, they ought to be of higher and better quality control than Marvel Legends.

I have my eyes on 1st Appearance Wolverine, and both Sabretooths. 1st appearance Wolvy because I like that look a lot, and I didn't like the way the ML version turned out(shoulder articulation hindered due to torso sculpt, and overall quality was just downright bad, bear in mind, this was one of the most anticipated figures of 2006 for me). The Sabretooth figures look AWESOME. Great sculpts!

I would also like the answers to these questions, because I am basically in the same boat as you. I've had my eyes on the modern Thor and Anti-Venom, though they didn't look to me like they had quite full articulation.

That upcoming Deadpool does look pretty great though.

If you love Marvel Legends, then Mephisto, Thanos and Uatu are three of the must-haves.

I'd say it's worth it. But if you start buying, only get the ones that you really want. I've gotten Mephisto, the zombies, and Origins Wolverine, and have the Deadpool, War Machine and Iron Man on preorder. I've also considered getting Hulk and Uatu. I still mainly get Marvel Legends however.

EDIT: I just looked at pictures of Thor. BLEGH. I'll stick with my ML one please.

Welcome to the club! I've been collecting MS figures for quite awhile and yes, I totally agree with you on the articulation issue.

The initially MS figures had very limited articulation and were very statue-like. For example, Spidey, Punisher, Phoenix - just to name a few.

However, the recent ones have decent and basic articulation. For example, limbs are movable. As much as I love articulation on my figures, I don't like some of the multi-joints on the Toy Biz figures.

As for QC - none of my MS have any problems such as breakages but there are some issues (minor) on the paint jobs such as a smudge here and there.

Another issue (again a minor one) is the scale. Its one of the reasons why I didn't pick up Sabertooth and Wolverine but I must admit they look very well done.

A lot of the earlier ones have little articulation and remind me very much of Spawn action figures. Some of the newer ones look really sweet though. My favorites are the Watcher, Thanos, and Black Cat.

If you plan on collecting them, I have some I was going to put on ebay this week. They are all loose but I have:

    Elektra (complete)
    White Queen (complete)
    Green Goblin (complete)
    Dr. Octopus (complete)
Ultimate Venom (Figure only, no display stand, has white Spider symbol on chest)

If anyone is interested shoot me a PM.

I've always wanted a separate thread for this, looks like it's finally happening!

Anyways, my local comic book store, (or LCB) is ordering 6 MS Venom figures, and they said they'd put one on hold for me. Can't wait to have a definitive Venom figure!

Their Venom is still the best non-1/6 scale figure I've gotten all year. Will be grabbing another when it's rereleased.

Depends. The green and red are solid and nice sculpts. The grey is a POS.

Yeah, I'm talking about the green one.

Also, forgot to mention that I'm ordering MS Rhino.

I agree, I was a little apprehensive because the material used for the earlier MS always felt kind of fragile to me, but Venom is fantastic! Personally I think he scales perfectly with the Marvel Legends Spiderman and Carnage.

And because I'm in love with this mold, I'd be over the moon if MS repainted him into the Brock version of Toxin. I'm okay with the ML version, but I'd love to see a larger version, maybe with a remolded back piece to resemble the tendrils from the comic.

I have Colossus, Abomination, Hulk, and the Lizard. I ordered Deadpool from Walmart.com. He should be here soon. I still haven't gotten around to getting the Juggernaut, but I will do so eventually.

I am prefering these over Marvel Legends. I just go to where they are being sold and buy one. Nice and simple. No hunting, scalpers, artificial scarcity, etc.

Green hulk is fantastic. It is solid and just a nice display piece. I also have rhino and the quality is fantastic. Definitely get them both if you can.
