TOYPOCALYPSE 4: FANEXTASY WRAP UP!! « Anyone else intrigued by these? They are 4 inch fantasy figures intended to be army/troop builders. There are plans for several different races with customizable options.... with the possibility for things such as large scale dragons, trolls, a castle, catapults etc...I see some real fun and potential with these.
These look awesome! I would totally army build skeleton warriors regardless of scale. Hopefully these aren't more than $15 a pop.
The campaign has 10 days to go and is close to hitting all announced stretch goals - Mythic Legions Kickstarter So much fun stuff here - knights, dwarves, skeletons, vampires, barbarians, orcs and minotaurs! Just to clarify, these will be 6" scale not 4" as originally announced.
Yeah, I've been ogling these for the last few weeks. At first I thought they might make nice additions to the MOTUC line, but as I looked at them more I think I'd prefer them as just their own standalone line (with no associated fiction... I'd rather use my imagination on these guys). At this point I'm planning to order about a dozen of them: most of the skeletons (skipping Tibius, as he's kind of bland and repetitive for being one of the pricier figures), several of the knights, and the dwarf with the blue armor. Skipping the rest of the dwarves and the orcs, they're not really my thing. Waffling on the minotaur. Mostly I think they look great. My only complaint about them is that so many of them use the same chest/breastplate piece, I wish there were a few more designs of that for variety's sake. Oh, and the human faces, while nicely sculpted, don't do much for me. But I'll definitely be ordering some of these this week, before the deadline hits.
I think the 4 Horsemen heard the critiques regarding Tibius - he's supposedly gonna get updated, at the very least with the new skull head shown on Malleus. For the sake of my wallet, I'm gonna try to order just 1 of each "race" whichever I think looks the best. So for human Knight I'll get Attila Leossyr (that lion helm is pretty awesome), Thord Ironjaw (very traditional dwarf), Carpathias the vampire, can't decide yet between Skarpular or Malleus the skeleton, Urkku the orc, Vitus the spartan/gladiator, Bog Goblin, Asterionn the minotaur and perhaps the "fan's choice" figure.
Ah, interesting, thanks! Yeah, Tibius definitely needs something else, to set him apart from the nicer-looking standard troop builder skeleton.
Here's the exact quote by the Four Horsemen on their forum regarding Tibius: "Hey Everybody! We just wanted to answer a few questions that have been out there regarding Tibius. A lot of people have commented that he looks like he's lacking when compared to the army builder skeleton and we completely agree. We will definitely be upgrading his paint scheme as soon as we can. We have some other items that will be taking priority paint-wise, but as soon as we have the time we will be giving his paint some cool upgrades. Also, we did mention at some point that we were considering the hinged jaw head for him, but we are still debating that. It's a question of whether or not Malleus needs a unique head or not. Please feel free to let us know what you think right here in this thread! FH" It's really nice how they seem to listen to their fans and are open and accommodating to changes! So to get some pictures into this thread so it won't be useless, here's some of my top picks from this line: Attilla Leossyr Sir Ignatius (makes a great holy warrior) Malleus Urkku (the other orc looks pretty good too) Carpathaias Vitus Bog Goblin Asterionn Thord Ironjaw
I wasn't happy to hear they were going to be 6 inch. The line was promoted to be about army building and a smaller scale, good luck trying to do that with a bunch of 6 inch figures standing next to each other. 5 or 6 will look great on a desk or shelf though.
I would have been happy either way - 4" would have worked well with Boss Fight Studio's Greek mythology based Vitruvian HACKS Kickstarter line but since I've been collecting much of the 4 Horsemen's 6" scale figures - from their early Seventh Kingdom line to Gothitropolis, I'm happier with the move to the bigger size.
With only 4 days left and over $200,000 raised, the Four Horsemen just previewed the last figure stretch goal - the Barbarian Builder Set! This will satisfy fans looking for an homage to Warduke from AD&D, Deathdealer from the Frank Frazetta paintings or simply some viking raiders Here's the update from the Kickstarter project: "To celebrate crossing the $200,000.00 stretch goal mark, we are offering our final figure in the Mythic Legions Kickstarter project - the Deluxe Barbarian Builder Set, which is our most customizable figure to date! As a THANK YOU to fans and backers for all of the amazing support and enthusiasm for our Mythic Legions Kickstarter, we have based this Deluxe Barbarian Builder Set on numerous fan requests, voting results, and awesome character mockups on the forums. All of the tools are here give this figure a variety of looks, and there are a number of unique parts that can be used to customize other figures in the line. It's basically a deluxe figure, a weapon pack, and a helmet ornament set all in one! The Barbarian Builder set comes includes ALL of the following… 1 Base figure, 2 heads, 2 sets of shoulder pads, 2 sets faults 2 front loin cloths, 1 chest strap, 1 large sword, 1 small sword, 1 dagger, 1 axe, 1 spear, 1 shield, 1 set of large horn helmet ornaments, 1 set of small horn helmet ornaments, 1 set of antler helmet ornaments, 1 set of bird wing helmet ornaments, 1 set of bat wing helmet ornaments There's a LOT of figure for us to paint here, but we wanted to go ahead and show this guy off now with painted shots soon to follow! Hopefully we will have the fully realized version of the Deluxe Barbarian Builder up by late Monday. The Deluxe Barbarian Builder is available RIGHT NOW as an add-on for $50 with shipping included for US Backers, and $55 with shipping included for International backers." I wasn't too keen on their update for Demon Knights but ever since, the Orc army buiders, the two unlocked weapons packs and this last set have made me up my pledge considerably!
Argh.... that "all in" option for $1050 is really tempting me. Gotta resist. I had planned to only get about half of these guys, and I'm telling myself I need to stick to that and not give in to the siren song of completionism.
You want this guy - Attilus the Conquerer! With the helmeted head and batwing ornaments from the "Build a Barbarian" kit, you can get a great homage to Warduke from AD&D
I could never afford the "all-in" packages (such as the ones for the Ravens or PWTT Kickstarter) - I have to work out and cherry pick the figures I like the best. Even so I've had to budget for this huge project by pledging about $340 now for about half the figures I want, then during the short add on period I'll pay for the rest. It's very helpful for me that the total bill is split between two different credit card statements
Welp, I did it. I agonized for a few days over which figures to get and which to pass on, but ultimately decided on this lineup: I really liked the skeletons, so I decided to get the complete lineup of those. It's funny, the way I've been assembling the "hero" guys feels a lot like I'm playing an RPG... trying to select a varied team that will complement each other. The generic knights I wanted because they're just nice classic armor designs. The only one I'm a little unsure of is the Kickstarter exclusive guy, the golden armored Dwarf. He has a lot of pieces that I'll already have on other figures; I would have preferred he had the long horns or antlers that some of the other dwarves have, instead of the head wings (which I'll already have on two other figures). But I figure I can swap those out for some of the pieces from the Build-a-Barbarian kit. Mostly I got him because he's the KS exclusive, and on the off-chance I ever do try to acquire the full set of these guys, I think I would be kicking myself for not picking up the exclusive one when it was cheap. Anyway, this'll be a nice treat a year from now when they ship out.
The skeletons are growing on me. Two red ones flanking Malleus, would you go Skapula or Clavian? I really like Attlus, but would rather have the Orc (&/or minotaur), so I'm going the orc lineup with weapon pack two and using Otho with the extra head as the leader. I think Gideon & Attila (and maybe that FanEx) look better with the orc head, but Otho can be used on something else. I'm hoping to stick him on a stormtrooper or something.
They can make a half dozen crappy look skeletons but they can't manage a woman, ok. Everything else looks like it's out of the 1980s. Disappointed, I'd love a good range of fantasy 6" scale figures.
