My Leonardo (first one) just had a joint crumble out of nowhere. Decided these were too damned expensive and difficult to obtain to be dealing with NECA QC. Sold the rest of them off... and the Michelangelo and Donatello both arrived to my buyer with broken joints as well... which shouldn't have happened considering how meticulously I pack and pad when I ship stuff. The buyer even said there was no damage to the packaging itself so I can only assume that it's more well known piss poor NECA QC. I really should have known better after all the terrible experiences I've had with the company, but I really wanted a collector line of one of my favorite childhood properties. I'm hoping the Super 7 Turtles turn out better, but that review was a bit of a downer. Still that's only one guy so I'll wait on more before I make any further decisions.
glad none of mine have broke sheesh, and Neca's like my 2nd biggest company provider after Hasbro who makes everything, Hasbro owns my room in sheer numbers outside of TMNT, Horror/AVP, and Voltron
that was your first mistake, hiding it in a collector-hunting aisle... should have stuck it in the Disney Princess or Barbie aisle...
i had to stash it while no one was looking lol, i didn't think about that and forgot about the cameras lmao
Thanks for the feedback guys, got tempted since the toon Turtles seem to be in the scale I want but I’ll just wait for something more suited to my tastes to come along. Seeing some of my NECA stuff break randomly a few years after purchase soured my experience. They’ve got the best sculpts for Turtles available at physical retail stores, hopefully 1 day, their materials will be as good as their sculpts. I’ll just admire pics of their toys online and hope none of your Turtles break.
Honestly, a lot of times hiding an item really won't do you any good. In retail we do what is called a "zone" at closing time where we go through and "front and face" the merchandise (basically pull it forward and arrange the shelves neatly and to make them look full) and part of that is finding stuff that's out of place and putting it in a "go back" cart for it to get sorted by the morning or overnight crew to be put back in its proper place. So, really, when you hide stuff you're not doing yourself any favors.
I wish I could just say “purchase with confidence” on these items since they are so nice looking...but I’ve been NECA’d a few times myself. I probably have around 40 NECA figures in total across TMNT, horror figures, etc. Of those, I’ve had three figures break and probably another five to six figures with severely stuck or super tight joints. Out of the roughly 20 TMNT figures (which include toon, movie and arcade figures) I’ve only had one break (Bebop’s ankle) and two with stuck or ridiculously tight joints (arcade Slash and movie Foot Soldier). The rest of the TMNT stuff has been pretty good. But, there are definitely people who have had worse luck. It’s a crap shoot.
Having never had neca before when I bought the superman alien, and batman predator sets from toyfair(?) a year or so ago I immediately gave them the hot water treatment right away and didn't have issues with them. The neca cartoon line i got the brighter green later release ones and haven't taken them out of the package yet. I figured being a later release any "bugs" in the mold have hopefully been worked out.
I've asked a few times and nobody has had an answer. Which 2 pack is next? Leatherhead set or April set?
2nd review I’ve seen for Raph, this one pretty much cements the notion for me that if you’re used to 4H/S7 figures, you’ll have a good idea of not only what you’re getting into, but if you’ll like their line or not. Somewhat tempted still since they nail the toy look. Cool seeing pinless joints too. Will be more tempted if they start doing the toy-only variants like Shogun Leo and allies/rogues like Wingnut and Slash. Kind of mind boggling these wouldn’t be in retail stores for $20-30 but I do remember Playmates pretty much having a monopoly at retail for Turtles aside from getting NECA divied up across other retailers. Also, massive missed opportunity that no one is making fully articulated IDW Turtles.
Man, I am so digging the Super7 Raph. Could he have benefited from double jointed articulation? Of course. However, the pin-less joints makes this one sexy looking figure. Really appreciated the side by side shot with all those Raph figs as well. Seeing the S7 right next to the original Playmates really emphasizes what they were going for. Mission accomplished IMO.
Idk about IDW, they did some weird things that I wasn't really fond of, Acid Face Ralph to name a few
They’ve got some designs I like, like some of their designs for Shredder and I get the feeling “The Last Turtle” arc will leave me wanting figures
That's a much more positive review and pretty much ticks all the boxes for me when it comes to what I personally want in a TMNT collector line. Sure they could be more articulated, but otherwise, these are great updated representations of the toyline and that's the number one want for me. Can't wait until BBTS gets my preorders in.
watching the comparison, that doesn't look half bad, still feel the cost makes me cherry pick like a mf'er but I can def appreciate what they're going for even more now, bring on Bebop and Metalhead
Oh yeah, I'm already planning on skipping Mutagen Man and the Foot Soldier. Was never a fan of the Mutagen Man design/character and I'm not going to troop build $50 figures so that's a no go on the Foot Soldier. That said I was never planning on being a completionist with any TMNT collector line.
