For those of you not aware, S.H. MonsterArts by Bandai Japan is the latest spinoff of the successful S.H. Figuarts action figure line. This line is specifically meant to feature the giant monsters of kaiju eiga and is primarily focused on the Godzilla series of films from the Heisei "versus" era in the late 80s/early 90s. The approx. six-inch scale line, like some of the earlier Revoltech figures, is giving us the monsters we love but with real articulation!

North American collectors will be happy to know that Bluefin, a company specializing in bringing the best Japanese toylines to collectors in the West, has made it more possible than ever for us to collect this toyline.

EDIT: It's been nearly four years since the creation of this thread and much has changed. Bluefin's partnerships with BigBadToyStore, Amazon.com, Toy Arena, Silver Snail and any number of comic book and hobby shops courtesy of Diamond give a variety of domestic shopping options at prices comparable to Japanese retail, and Bluefin has even been able to import all Tamashii Web exclusive MonsterArts starting with Little Godzilla. The North American market has its own exclusive MonsterArts figure in the form of Comic-Con Explosion Godzilla, we continue to receive every figure in the line, and Bluefin has even made a point to give us exclusive figure reveals at SDCC. S.H. MonsterArts now covers not only the Godzilla franchise and King Kong 2005, but also Aliens, Predator, and Gamera.

What's next for S.H. MonsterArts? The tail end of 2015 consists of Godzilla redecos, some with new beam pieces like the current Godzilla 2014 Spitfire Ver., but with a new Toho Godzilla movie next year, who knows what we'll get next! Gamera has sold well enough that we should be getting more releases from that subline. The first release of 2016 will be King Ghidorah Special Color Ver. based on Noriyoshi Ohrai's classic Heisei poster art!

I've purposefully tried to avoid looking at the MonsterArts stuff because I really don't need to dig another rabbit hole for myself but I've been dying to get a decent sized Gamera for awhile now and MonsterArts may just be the one to do it.

Roughly how big are these guys?

EDIT: We have since found out that Godzilla is taller than most Figuarts, but juuuust isn't quite in Ultra-Act scale.

We also got a MonsterArts figure of Gamera from Gamera 2, but otherwise it's the Revoltech or Microman lines for articulated Gamera figures and some of his foes.

That (rather detailed) Squirtle??? C'mon man, Gamera is at least Godzilla's chest level. And besides, I've since a Revoltech figure get a Figma release within the space of a year. I will happen...I hope.

But seriously, aside from Generational repeats of Godzilla/Ghidorah/MechaGodzilla, calling it MonsterArts without trying to incorporate some of the more famous Monsters of old seems a little...sad.

Anyway, here's some food for thought since we've got the Kaiju ball rolling:

Chosen - I've pre-ordered both Goji and Mecha and I'm really looking forgot to getting them. I can't recall the exact dimensions but you're right - they're around the same scale as the Ultra kaijus!!! :D

Man, seeing a dollar price on Goji and Mecha G makes me wince. When the price is in yen I never really think about it :lol . I'll at least see how things go in November before I change my mind on where my Mecha G is pre-order. But it is nice to see Bluefin finally getting into the swing of Tamashii Nation distribution finally.

First off, yay to finally a MonsterArts thread. Secondly, and I said this on twitter, I'm kinda kicking myself right now for having these pre-ordered on Amiami. I see Amazon ultimately being the better deal, but I've already had to cancel a few pre-orders with Amiami this year due to funds, so I don't want to end up on their blacklist.

Finally there is a thread about this MonsterArts figures. I'm pleased that Godzilla is coming back in more articulated toy form (nothing against the old stuff believe me), but I'm getting these.

I've made a few cancelations here and there from my AmiAmi pre-orders over the past few months, but they've never blacklisted me. Heck, I have a friend who has been making cancelations each month for over a year now and they haven't blacklisted her. I figure as long as you don't cancel everything you won't piss them off.

At one figure a month, and with the vast selection available (and a certain three-headed someone hinted at being on the horizon), I'm not the least bit surprised that Bandai has chosen to stick with Godzilla for now. There might also be issues with getting Kadokawa to license Gamera to them, not to mention how they screwed Kaiyodo over re. a Godzilla Revoltech. Unlike Godzilla, Bandai has no rights of first refusal on Gamera products, which is why the turtle's gotten a wider variety of products over the years.

Nope, you don't pay one cent until release! The way God intended.

I usually don't give it much thought myself either, but now that we have more options than ever, it's a necessary evil.

As of this post, AmiAmi's costs for Godzilla and MechaGodzilla in USD are $52.11 and $61.52 respectively, before shipping. This is actual market exchange rate, not PayPal's even worse rate to cover their "expenses".

Eh, I already have SiC Skyrider and Super-1 preordered for those months too so it's not a complete waste.

Anyway, on the MosterArts side of things, bring me Gigan!

So do the Amazon pre-orders include the "First Release Bonus Parts"?

I agree with ya, dude. Besides, who needs any other Kaijus when Bandai has the "King of Monsters"? Goji is the most recognizable Kaiju in both the East and West! :D
