Is it time to give it a proper thread ? :D

I know there's some dedicated to FF and Bleach and Halo : Reach, hope this will be a started.

Yes I used to laugh at Square Enix's Play Arts as I expected them only to milk Final Fantasy series to death. Then they churned out DmC, Bayonetta and surprised me with Halo Reach, Assassin Creed and Front Mission Evolved. Now today they blown me away with this :

I've probably said befoere. But the Play Arts figures are way too big for me. I dont mind scale issues, its just they're too big and hard to pose for me. And they also seem to be getting more and more expensive.

I just need to finally get a hold of Bayonetta and I'll be good for the time being. Otherwise I do love the intricate detail put into the figures.

Only one I have is Bayonetta. I have an Nero in the box, but that got signed by Johnny Young Bosh...so in the box it stays.

I might get another Nero because of how nice it looks, but other then that...the only one that really interests me is Big Boss.

And yeah, Bayonetta is easily taller then any figure I own. So the height is definitly something that bothers me. The detail is really really nice though.

The upcoming Reach ones look fine design-wise, but they're colours are dreadful and they look too toy-like if that makes any sense.

I just wished Play Arts Kai figs weren't so tall. I wonder why they decided to go to a bigger scale.

    I have Bayonetta and Jeanne.

I also have the entire FFXIII line...including both Odin and Shiva.

My wife and I enjoyed 13 so much that when we saw the pics for the figures it was like...yup, those are coming home.

It makes sense when properly translated to "These figures are awesome, but way out of my price range, so I have to look for ANYTHING to convince myself I don't want them."

Because they look amazing, colors and all.

Except, no. Sorry to break it to ya, but Carter's not sandy blue and gray, he's cobalt and black. And they all have this "shine" to them that looks like plastic. Not cheap plastic or anything, but plastic. Makes more sense translated to "I'll buy these, but they're so expensive I must convince myself they're flawless and squelch ANYONE who says otherwise to surpress the niggling doubt that they amy not be 100% worth the investement."

I actually do think Jorge looks good, not $50 good, but he's got nice colours, looks like he has good detail. I could afford him if I wanted, but I'm not going to pay money for something I don't want. What kind of logic is that?

EDIT: Here's what I mean. Just comparing the colours:

Seriously, the photography even looks like it's trying to make the figures look bland and boring, when they're all super-posable and whatnot. It's like the entire picture was desaturated in photoshop. The exception is Jorge, who's bright and even has the correctly coloured visor. (which the "official" McFarlane figure didn't even do)

The in-game models look silly. I think SE has made them look 1000X better IMO. Makes the McFarlane toys looks like Playskool toys.

Okay, so are you being sarcastic or something?

EDIT2: I'm not trying to be smart, I'm genuinely wondering. It'd be perfectly fine if you weren't, though.

I'm digging the finish of the Kai Reach figures, although they've definitely taken creative liberties with the proportions.

The Mcfarlane figures are certainly more game-accurate as far as proportions, but if you want to talk about looking "plastic-y" and "shiny", they fit the bill pretty well. I'm not a fan of the "drybrush the hell out of it, it'll make it look gritty and realistic" mentality that the mcfarlane artists have taken with the reach paint jobs, and the molding of the culpts are very puffy looking, making them look more like lumps of PVC than ridged armor plating.

In the picture above, just take a look at the sculpting on the legs of the mcfarlane figure next to the Kai version. Soft cast and toyish.

EDIT: Bought Dante and Bayonetta online the other day. Will be interested to see how the PA Kais compare to the older Play Arts figures.

I just recently got Dante and Nero and despite their size I seriously don't think they compare to the older non Kai Play Arts ... Still ok just not as good imo .
