Who's making this huge lion voltron? I hope we get a vehicle version to go with this. I don't even care if it's a ko version. I just want both version voltrons!
IMO this is the only 'anime accurate' one I can think of: http://www.poeghostal.com/2012/04/review-6-blazing-sword-voltron-voltron-mattel.html Oh! That's cool! Come to think of it, its a pity we never go a large-scale robeast to face-off against Voltron.
I always used the Rancor monster from Star Wars. He was the only large monster toy I had. Now that I think of it, he still is.
Yeah, and that is why he is my favorite. Plus, Mattel had an anime accurate paint job on their big one. There were no stupid ass numbers and stuff. No chrome or silver paint.
Actually, I recall reading somewhere that the 'whites' on the lions were meant to be silver but somehow they couldn't use the colour - why I do not know. X)
Speaking of the large Matty Voltron, for those of you who have one how is it holding up two years later? I was lucky and got one without any problems and it remains that way. I've combined it and taken it apart several times, used the head reveal gimmick a million times because my daughter loves it and it's seen a good amount of real play since I let my daughter handle it. It's proven itself to be a good old fashioned toy. It's just too bad it was so hard to get and expensive because I think kids may have appreciated the thing more than adult collectors. Maybe if Mattell had something similar ready to go when the Voltron Force cartoon was airing more kids would have taken an interest and the show would have enjoyed a longer life.
Even though I just bought KOB, I'm very curious how this new Toynami Voltron will look like once it's all set and done....
Had I seen it at retail I may have been tempted. It looked like a lot of fun. It looked like something definitely appropriate for a younger demographic. It looked like a mass market toy aimed at collectors with production and price reflecting that. Which is why I think it doomed itself when it came to any chances at retail. I don't know if it ever was offered to mass market but it ought to have been. Sadly Mattel went in with a lot of hype but didn't make much of their license.
My son was really looking forward to the Voltron force toys i showed from that Toyfair. He still brings up his disappointment about it. He really wanted to 'FORM BLAZING' guns on his shelves.
Are you talking about the massive bulky voltron? I had it and it was having trouble standing up. It would lean forward every time. But hey it was still not a bad toy. I would only display it anyways. I liked it but it was not enough to impress me to keep it. I liked the size and that's about it. The pilots was good too. In the end I sold it hoping a better one will arise in the future. For now I bought the masterpiece light up eyes smaller version. They are all fragile but I don't play with them anyways. Looking at the new pics I can't wait to buy this new one coming soon! I wonder if they will make some pilots for it as well?
Mattell's general attitude toward Voltron at the time: "Look everyone, we're doing VOLTRON! YEAHHHHH!!! VOLTRONNN!!! *quickly sweeps everything regarding Voltron under the rug* What's really weird is that their only venture into the license was actually very successful for them. Makes me think they had a problem with the license and had to quickly give it up. Yep, that's the one. I know some people have had problems with it standing but mine was always fine as long as it was on something hard and flat. I could get it to stand on carpeting but it took a little more finesse with the posing.
Yeah it was a nice toy. A bit pricey but worth it if you liked it. It wasn't terrible but I just didn't love it enough. The size was amazing!
