Mattel had the license first under the Matchbox Banner (Importing the Popy Molds), then Panosh Place got it and made the Deformed Lion Set and the Figures and other vehicles and the Castle. There was some kind of international agreement between Mattel and Panosh Place as the rights outside the US were still held by Mattel and Mattel sued them. After that in the Mid-90's Trendmasters had the License and reissued the Matchbox (Popy) Lion Voltron with added weapons a black face for the robot and a defect in the ears of the Robot. They later made a new Plastic version with friction motor wheels and tiny pilots that they could hold. Then gace the GIANT one that was literally Titian Metroplex size. Then came Stealth and Dino Voltrons supporting the 3D animated show that was going on at the time. After that came Toynami then Mattel again and Toynami again.
Dude, are you referring to SRC instead of SOC? Because while SOC figures have a certain degree of decent articulation, I won't really classify them as multiposable. As for the 3P Voltron...you should check out the SOC thread. It's pretty decent - the sculpt is good, articulation decent, has a pretty generous amount of diecast and sturdy. Blows the Toynami version completely. It's not perfect: 1. bicep and wrist swivels but it 'cheats' by having fore-arm articulation. Allowing it to perform the 'blazing sword' pose 2. May have minor paint issues As you can tell, I'm gushing over the figure but its my fave 3P figure that includes MMC Feral Rex, TFC Hercules etc.
Aren't SOCs supposed to be show accurate? Because that Voltron looks nothing like he does in the anime. When did that thing come out 1985?
No one is saying this Voltron is an official SOC figure, just stating it is being talked about in the SOC thread... This Voltron is basically a 3rd party chogokin figure...
Anybody see Toynami's new "Ultimate EX Voltron"? It looks like it's being designed by the same guys who made the SD style Voltron. The lions look stylized, but still very early prototype.
Its abit stylized but that will be nit-picking IMO. You're not the only one. I curious how the interchangeable limbs-weapons would work. You got a link, dude? You got my interest.
My bad. I thought that was an official figure. I'm not. Force was garbage. I'm mad at Mattel that they never at least gave us Zarkon, Lotor, and Hagar. Stylized for me defies the point of doing it at all.
Thanks! The sculpt looks promising! But after getting burned by Toynami, I'll wait and see the final product. I'm quite contented with the MT version. Saw more pictures of the prototype Toynami Voltron. It's more stylized than MT's. It's still kinda early but some the lions look like er, dogs or wolves. Hmmm, I'm with other collectors who got him. He's stylized in that sense that he looks more 'bulkier' or at least tougher. The anime version looks too 'square-ish' IMO. The MT version is the equalivant to MP-10 Optimus to his cartoon counterpart.
A gripe I have with the MT version is the red on the chestplate doesn't extend to the shoulders. They also didn't sculpt a Blue Lion body. Just reused the Yellow's.
One thing a transforming Voltron has never done is try to do the disappearing lion legs trick. Seems it should be simple to do. Just have the lion arms on panels that can swing around so the legs are inside the body. Hardest ones would be the rear leg lion's legs since that is where Black Lion's legs go up their butts.
Bleh, that new Toynami voltron looks awful to me. But then I love the Mattell toy and don't like how the King of Beasts toy looks so I'm clearly full of wrong opinions.
