What's this rumor about Vehicle Voltron being in season 2? Is it because of that mysterious Pilot in the recent Trailer?
While it could be, I wonder if the seeming increase in black lions come from the ones that weren't sold before the street date, verses the limbs which a lot of people managed to get beforehand.
That would be a pretty extensive undertaking design-wise, considering the number of ships involved in forming vehicle Voltron and the number of pilots flying them.
Several pages back I posted a word-for-word/step-by-step tutorial plus pictures- you can find it. I want to say it's somewhere around page 136, but I may be wrong- you'll have to search for it.
I for one would LOVE to see more Voltron, but there is a flaw in that thinking. More Voltron = More Robeast to fight = Pumping out half assed generic baddies to take advantage of a weakness of Voltron/Pilots. I don't want this show to become Power Ranger's formula of: Badguy--->Rangers--->Monster Grow--->Megazord every episode. I've been reading the new Power Ranger's comic and while I love seeing the zords, there is actual conflict with the rangers themselves that makes it better for me. I expect in Gundam animes to have nothing but Robot on Robot action, but as there is no equal to Voltron, when he does appear it means they need that level of power to take on something. I also appreciate the Lions themselves being able to fight on their own, and have their own weapons (only Red so far in the show). I can only think of one instance in power rangers where the T-rex and Dragonzord fought on their own, and it was great.
Tell that to Iron Blooded Orphans, that show will sometimes go episodes at a time without even seeing a Mobile Suit. In fact, my favourite Gundam of the show barely did anything at all worth mention aside from one fight in the second season, and yet it's one of the most memorable moments because it had real conflict behind it. It was cool, yeah, but it would've meant nothing without the story of the characters at the controls. Hell, the first fight of the first episode is hardly even a fight. The main Gundam just shows up and clubs an enemy MS to death, but by that point the protagonists were getting beaten so badly, losing people left and right, wildly outgunned in little tanks verses giant robots, it was seeing them fight back explosively that made the "fight" cool. Otherwise it was just an insanely quick game of whack-a-mole. In fact, most Gundam shows take it easy on the robot action as an unspoke rule for just that reason. (it helps that Mobile Suits aren't super-powered usually) The robots are extensions of the characters pilotting them, and those charatcers' conflicts are what's important.
Well, that's exactly what the first robeast did. It put the hurt on them a number of times when they tried to form Voltron for the first time. I don't remember any time after that though. This post also made me realize that I haven't read Penny Arcade in a couple years... ~Paik EDIT: 18:09 shows them getting shot down.
Agreed, the MS in Seed are pretty awesome, but those pilots cried so much I couldn't stand it- when they weren't fighting they were crying, Hell they cried a lot even when they fought- that's all Seed was- just one giant day-time TV show filled with white trash drama and Gundam technology. Ick...
Actually, in the show Voltron always flies in from super far away after forming, so I think they just fly out of range and then super fast fly back once they're finished.
What I find tough to believe is how they've managed to form Voltron in situations where they were taking on a fleet or multiple opponents, because the level of advanced technology featured throughout the Voltron franchise doesn't really justify or support just flying out of range- ya know. I'm surprised Zarkon or one of his monsters has never tried to hyper jump INTO the middle of Voltron's transformation and attack- almost like Goku's Instant Transmission, "Form Feet and Le"-(POOF!) AW HELL NAW YOU AINT DOIN SHIT! (robeast grabs blue and yellow lions and throws them out of formation) LOL That would seriously suck for them. lol
Of course, if you take the speedy line backgrounds seriously, the lions are moving super fast even whilst combining.
But what I mean is, the technology often featured in super robot shows doesn't justify those transformation segments every time they happen, because in a more realistic situation I think we can all agree that the robeast or enemy wouldn't just sit there and watch. It doesn't matter if it's Voltron, Combattler V, Voltes V, Daimos, Getter Robo, or Mazinkaiser- there have been tons of opportunities where, in the middle of transformation, the enemy could've attacked- but because of how the episode must run (otherwise the good guys won't win), the transformation happens every time anyway. But the level of technology displayed in these shows doesn't justify the enemy just sitting there and doing nothing- they could try to intercept and cancel the transformation.
