I just got my Albegas figure today. Overall I like it, but there's three chest pieces that I have yet to figure out where they go, and one of the arms on the red bot has a tendency to fall off the elbow. Interesting use of magnets to hold the pieces together.
Once I get home I plan on taking plenty more photos of the box and accessories, as well as playing with the arrangements I also need to tighten up the left arm/shoulder of the red robot, as I mentioned the lower arm tends to fall out, so hopefully a layer or two of silver nail polish will fix it and make it a bit snugger. I also need to measure it, as the listings say it's 6 inches tall, but it's clearly taller.
Here's those box photos I promised Also the loose elbow only required two coats of silver nail polish Some more photos of the figures!
Did Voltron start out being made by Panosh Place and then switch to Mattel? I'm working on a deal with a guy for all five of the lions in the original boxes and in the picture I can see "Mattel" in the lower right hand corner of one of the lions. He said they are 30 years old so I'm guessing they're original. I've always wanted a Voltron but basically know absolutely nothing about them.
Panosh Place went bankrupt in 1987, so the general thought is that Mattel picked up and distributed the some of the toys, perhaps to international markets. I don't think we've ever heard a definitive answer of why some boxes have the additional Mattel logo though. In any case, the box the guy is showing you is likely legit.
Thanks for the info. Like I said, I know virtually nothing about Voltron. I was just puzzled by the fact that the box has the outline of the Panosh Place logo but then it has the Mattel logo on it. Makes sense after reading what you said. Hopefully I can make this deal happen and add them to my collection.
Picked up the lions today and they are beautiful. All five of them, all mint in box(boxes are in really nice shape), all 100% complete with instructions. After taking them out of the boxes I honestly don't think this guy has ever been put together. Nice tight joints and the lions are pristine with beautiful chrome. This is just an amazing figure. I felt like a kid again when I was putting him together. He is now one of the highlights of my collection.
Always loved that piece. Good that you got them all MIB and complete! You'll have a good time with them.
Pics! Did it come with all of the pilots too? Those are the hardest/most expensive to obtain these days, especially the helmets. I think I only have two helmets left with my set. The Panosh Voltron gets a LOT of crap but I love it. I don't care that it's kind of ugly, it was made for fun and I had a ton of fun with mine when I was a kid.
Thanks. To get them was one thing, but to get them all MIB still blows my mind, and I got such a great deal on them. No pilots. Tracking them down is going to be my next goal. I'm still just so stoked that I can finally say I own a Voltron.
I just noticed my green lion's back panels are of 2 different greens? The tail cover too. Is that commong?
